Reacting against those who hate is not necessarily hating, and even if it is... so what. We wouldn't be the hypocrites, since we don't claim to cling to a doctrine that preaches love, or worship a god of supposed similar ontology.

If you are unable to see the hate in some of Robertson's words, then you are likely blinded by your own bias. Robertson was no less than a bigot, inspired by the bible. The bible itself is full of bigotry and hate, such as with the promotion of slavery, genocide, and homophobia. One following the word of the bible will naturally become a bigot. It is only through reformed thought can one avoid such pitfalls. The idea that the bible is divinely inspired when it inspires such hate is a paradox that is hard to ignore, considering that this divine being is supposedly omni-benevolent.
