Democrats rage at Speaker Johnson over pairing Israel aid with IRS cuts

Treasury Department officials say not all new hires will work on enforcement and increased revenues won’t come from middle-income earners. Treasury Secretary Janet L. Yellen directed IRS Commissioner Charles P. Rettig not to use the new funding to increase enforcement of taxpayers earning less than $400,000. The IRS is a bureau of the Treasury Department.

“Specifically, I direct that any additional resources—including any new personnel or auditors that are hired—shall not be used to increase the share of small businesses or households below the $400,000 threshold that are audited relative to historical levels,” Yellen wrote in an Aug. 10 letter to Rettig. “This means that, contrary to the misinformation from opponents of this legislation, small business or households earning $400,000 per year or less will not see an increase in the chances that they are audited.”
Sure, the employees that are currently auditing the $400K and above will be auditing the lower end and they will be replaced with new hires. How stupid are you? Never mind--it was rhetorical.

Don't be so hard on yourself as it may be beyond your abilities

off topic but good try
Please try to keep up with current events, moron. Johnson has suggested tying southern border security to Ukrainian funding which definitely is on topic as the Israel aid has been included in the same bill. SMFH. No wonder you voted for Biden. Like every other democrap, you're fucking stupid.

Democrats rage at Speaker Johnson over pairing Israel aid with IRS cuts

4 Nov 2023 ~~ By Mychael Schnell & Mike Lilis

Jewish Democrats are raging at Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) over legislation providing aid to Israel, accusing the newly installed leader of choosing a partisan tack that will only delay emergency assistance to America’s closest Middle Eastern ally.
All but 12 House Democrats voted against Johnson’s $14.3 billion aid proposal Thursday night, with most citing the Speaker’s decision to include cuts in equal amounts to IRS funding.
The legislation is also opposed by leaders of both parties in the Senate, who want a broader package including aid to Ukraine, leaving the fate of the Israel funds in question amid escalating hostilities in Gaza almost a month after Hamas’s terrorist attacks killed more than 1,400 people.
Heading into the weekend, Johnson’s Democratic critics remained furious with the decision to combine the aid to Israel — an issue that has historically enjoyed wide bipartisan support — with a highly partisan cut to one of President Biden’s pet programs. They minced no words in lashing out at the newly minted Speaker, with some even accusing Johnson of abandoning the biblical teachings he claims as a guide.

“If Democrats in the Senate or the House — or anyone else, anywhere else — want to argue that hiring more IRS agents is more important than standing with Israel in this moment, I’m ready to have that debate,” Johnson told reporters Thursday. “But I did not attach that for political purposes, okay, I attached it because again, we’re trying to get back to the principle of fiscal responsibility here, and that was the easiest and largest pile of money that’s sitting there for us to be able to pay for this immediate obligation.”

Commentary:
I’m liking this guy’s strategy so far. Give a little. Take a little.
If the Democrats aren’t freaking out, then Republicans aren't doing the job right. So far, so good.
We know Johnson wants it paid for...so he needs to take it from something that is NOT a supposed money maker. Yet I wonder why Mike Johnson didn't include taking money from Afghanistan too?
Perhaps Johnson will include reduction of aide to Afghanistan in the coming Bill sending aid to the Ukraine.
In the meantime, Israel is getting riled at Biden and Blinken appeasement efforts, telling Israel what to and how to conduct actions against Hamas.....AND....the fact that we "robbed" a stockpile of OUR weapons in Israel and gave them to Ukraine.
Basically, I feel better about election of Johnson as the Speaker. If Democrats were complimenting Johnson's leadership and actions, I'd surely be worried.
Nobody should comment on this that does not know the thousands of omnibus bills pushed through by Pelosi,Many even bypassed relevant committees and timelines.

Why are we sending any aid?
In the case of Israel there are two reasons. First, 75% of the 4 billion per year goes to US defense contractors BY LAW. So the aid to Israel is also pork for domestic defense contractors. Second, if we didn't have that juicy carrot to withdraw from them, we'd have far less leverage to get them to dance to our tune. The last few days, a LOT more IDF soldiers have begun dying in Gaza. That isn't the result of Hamas fighting better. It's the result of Israel being forced to stop using as much tactical close air/artillery support for those troops.

Israel's government is as much to blame as DC because they've known for decades that the time would come when they needed to scourge that hell hole and they also knew the odds were that a US government would threaten to withhold restocking of ammo and spare parts for all those shiny American made aircraft and missile stocks. I hope Israel learns from this struggle and stops relying on DC for resupply. To think that those young guys are dying needlessly just to try to appease world media is disgusting. The world will never be appeased enough to accept that Israel even has a right to self defense.

So this aid people talk about is in fact them buying products from US companies?
