Democrats propose "transaction tax" on financial transactions. (Poll)

Do you support the new "transaction tax", and if so, what would you do with the revenue?

  • Yes, to pay for free community college & job training

    Votes: 3 10.7%
  • Yes, to pay for 1/2 of 4-year college and advanced degrees

    Votes: 0 0.0%

  • Yes, see my post for where I'd put the $80b/yr revenue

    Votes: 5 17.9%

  • Total voters

All these taxes start to add up

Our debt isn't?

So stop the pork in bill, reduce spending

I'd hate to see a democrat's personal budget

LOL, debt went up $8 trillion under Trump. You expect Democrats to do what Trump would not? They are at least addressing one side.

BiDum is going to shatter that

Probably so. You expect him to do what the Republicans and Trump wouldn't?
If he's supposed to be better than them, absolutely. Why vote for him if he's going to do the same things that supposedly were terrible?

I didn't. Did you vote for Trump?
It was a general question and I wasn't assuming you specifically voted for him. I was answering a rhetorical question with another.

so your solution is to continue doing it??

better to stop it and lower taxs,,,

Where did I do that and more importantly as I've noted over and over, when someone actually does that I'll take it seriously.
so youre going to sit there and complain waiting for others to solve the problems you complain about and until then just keep taxing people

Should I take over the entire process? Cool.

I support what I claim to support and do not make lame excuses for what I pretend to not support. I've already noted this 3-4 times. I support paying for things. This is a way to pay for things so why would I not support it?
I support gutting or eliminating unneeded and wasteful government spending. In My estimate, a full 60% of the government could be cut and we'd be better off as a nation and society.

Then there would be less need to confiscate the labor of the individual, regardless of how they earned that money.

When people select and actually elect people to do that I will take it seriously as a solution. Wall Street runs and controls the country today and they will never allow that to happen. People will not demand it either.

So we enact taxes to pay for things because that can be done.

I agree

Right now the super wealthy are only taxed on their income. They are clever enough not to claim income. We cannot touch their wealth.
A small fee on transactions (like a sales tax) will open up their wealth to taxation
How many times should a dollar be taxed, stalin?

These dollars are not taxed like others pay taxes on their dollars. Capital Gains are taxed at a lower rate. I'm all for taxing income as income instead.
So, it's just pure greed then? We need more of their money for government programs that solve problems that don't really exist.

I guess at this point in our history, Principle alone is just an outdated concept.

The thread is about whether you support this tax and how you would use it. I said I am open. Vote to enact it and use it to address the debt and I'll support that.

Paying off your debt is greed in your book?
I do not support the tax and never will support any tax increase until the government has been whittled away to its bare essential duties.

This is called a principle. The government needs ONLY that which is required to fulfill its Constitutional obligations.

Making up problems and then promoting a government solution to justify the greed of taxes for political gain is NOT a legitimate use of the 16th Amendment.

Now you're using sophistry to justify your stance.

You know full well that when they opened the door of allowing the masses to vote for benefits from the common pool of taxes that the political parties would use it to garner votes.

Never should the people be permitted to vote for their own sustenance from the common funds.

That's fine but not paying your debt has always been known as being a dead beat.

Don't just look at the tax, look at your 401K bump w/o high-frequency traders. Its a benefit, not a tax.

If I'm a buy and hold in my 401k, how does eliminating HFT give my 401k a bump?
Because the HFTs won't "front-run" any trades stealing value from buy-and-hold investors.
HFTs don't "invest" they "steal" investments.

Because the HFTs won't "front-run" any trades stealing value from buy-and-hold investors.

You just can't explain how they steal value

HFTs don't "invest" they "steal" investments.

Funnier every time you say it.
OMG, here are a few links that you are apparently too lazy or stupid to research before posting nonsense.

What's funny is that you can't prove your "point" with links, so you are just a whiner.

Thanks for the links.
The 1st and 3rd don't mention high-frequency trading.

The 2nd one.......View attachment 482344
Don't need to be an HFT to read an announcement and buy a stock.
Even you could do that.

So still no luck explaining how my TSLA order gets front-run? LOL!
1. Your TSLA order doesn't get front-run, the stock does, you lose money, that's how HFTs make money, by stealing, duh.
2. Tell us what benefit HFTs are to the average 401K investor. <hint: you can't> Thanks for playing.

Your TSLA order doesn't get front-run, the stock does, you lose money,

Cool story!! You just can't explain how.

TSLA is trading at $711.15-Bid $711.19-Offer.
I try to buy 100 shares at $711.19.....how does an HFT swoop in and make me lose money? Any idea?

It is NOT My debt. I do pay My debt.

The national debt can be paid rather easily.

Cut the spending by the afore mentioned 60% and use the current revenue we are taking in to pay it down. It could be done in 15 years.

Then, cut the taxes to support ONLY a voted on and balanced budget.

so your solution is to continue doing it??

I don't disagree that people vote for what they see benefitting them. It's why I've noted that practically everyone supports Socialism as long as it's benefitting them.

How does that mean I shouldn't support paying for it?

What are Dems planning to spend the tax money on hmmm?

Why don't the Republicans agree to the tax as long as it's applied to the debt?

Because here's how that works, reduce the debt $1 with this revenue and increase borrowing $5 for other Dem PORK spending.

Probably so but that is NOT the reason for the thread. Again, it asks if you support this tax and why. I said I did and would support it going to debt.

Why do people expect Biden to be different than those who came before him?

we once again have Trumpsters pretending to be fiscally responsible and attacking others.
What trumpsters wanted was an end to the lockouts

but if you did that democrats would not have an excuse to continue your massive borrow and spend pork barrel policies

8 trillion in spending that wasn't paid for under Trump.
Why didn't Nancy do something......

It's not her thing. She has no desire to address the debt. Why do you think she does?
Cause that's her job......

I agree

The Dems have literally taxed just about EVERY SINGLE thing we do.

In NY they tax home loans, a $9,000 tax for a $500k loan. And if you dare refinance a year later they tax you the full amount again. One reason I left NY and flipped them the bird on my way out.

It is very simple. Your support should go to reducing the need to grow it. If you cut government, you CAN pay for it.

Her job is to raise campaign donations. That's the only reason she has her position.

But again, how do you expect Nancy and the Dems to do what Trump and the Republicans refused to do? They don't run on the debt.

Until such time as you and the rest of the country understand and support it.

Truth never stops being the truth.
