The fact is that the ACA subsidies sunset is something the Dems themselves did. They are holding America hostage in an attempt to continue paying obscene amounts of money into a healthcare system that even the Dems are admitting is broken. That is objectively foolish policy. There is the medicaid benefits for illegals too, which is not supposed to happen, but does happen. Moreover, this fight, stupid as it is, is something Dems are primarily doing for political reasons, not for the good of the American people. Some of the leftist fiends have admitted that their shutdown strategy is essentially one of "no pain, no gain" (i.e., Americans need to feel pain to make their plan work).

My state will not be a deciding factor, and I was just pointing out the numbers involved. With all the waste in government spending, including corporate welfare (also not mentioned in the Constitution), I could think of worse ways to spend my tax dollars.

The Republicans needs to be in front of cameras as much as they can to explain to the American people that the CR passed by the House and should be passed by the Senate keeps everybody paid and keeps the government operating while Congress works on and passes the requisite permanent (for now) appropriations bills to fun the government.

They should spell out what isn't getting paid because the Democrats will not agree to the clean and reasonable CR.

Don't let the Democrats control the message on this one.

Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) unsuccessfully sought a vote on his alternative bill, The True Shutdown Fairness Act, which would have paid all federal workers and contractors during the shutdown and blocked the Trump administration from carrying out mass layoffs.

So, Democrats had proposed a bill that would have paid all federal workers too. The difference, in the Democrat bill Trump could not have engaged in mass layoffs as he has threatened. That reality needs to be understood.

The Republicans control the House, they control the Senate, they control the Executive branch and they damn sure as hell control the Judicial branch through the SCOTUS. This government shutdown is on them. They need to learn to "negotiate", they don't know how. Hell, they can't even agree among themselves.

The point is, you can't ***** about paying taxes. You choose to do so. And yes, taxes really are, for the most part, voluntary. My oldest son makes real bank. But he is tighter than a drum and he hates to pay taxes. 401K, contributes the maximum allowable every year. Roth, contributes the maximum, every year. HSA, same thing, maximum. If he can stash a dollar somewhere, and not pay taxes on it, he is there.
