Many Republicans who are supporting him seem to be holding their noses while doing so, and many others refuse to support him at all.

The party elite NEEDED to be attack by BOTH camps. One did and one did not.

This is politics. If he can't win over half of his own party in the general election then he's dead in the water.

I disagree on the emails having much effect on her campaign. Partisan Democrats didn't care even before she was cleared of charges, and many independents who don't pay much attention to politics weren't paying attention anyways. What Trump needs to do to build any sort of coalition is change his entire act. His problem isn't that he doesn't "act presidential". His problem is he acts like somebody you wouldn't even want at your dinner table.

I think you are making a premature determination. This thing is going to keep stinking all through the hot summer into the fall. Then we still have the Clinton Foundation scandal coming up... It's the perception of impropriety swirling around her that is going to be a constant problem and it will persist.

I think what Trump needs to do is stay on message with the economy and illegal immigration. He needs to 'moderate' a bit on the trade tariff talk... not abandon it, but back it down a notch. It's a major point of contention for most fiscal Conservatives. I don't think he needs to change his style, it's been working well for him. He would benefit by someone deleting his Twitter app or changing his password until after November.

Trump's style benefited him during the primaries, but I don't see it working as well during the general. Simply insulting his opponents, blacklisting media outlets who question him, crying foul when anything doesn't go his way... He acts like a thin-skinned, petulant child. He doesn't have to speak like a politician, but he can speak plainly on the issues without resorting to any of those things.

It benefited him for a reason. People are fed up with status quot business as usual establishment politics. This is the anti-establishment year... Trump, Cruz, Carson, Sanders... all vehement anti-establishment candidates and all strong in their primary runs. I fully understand what you're saying about Trump, he is a lot to take. His personality is not what you or I particularly like. We're not electing a prom queen.

Given the underhanded nasty nature of the Democrat Machine the past 12 years or so, perhaps Trump is the remedy that is needed to counter that? Yes, I'd love to have someone dignified and presidential... we don't have that. The past two elections, the GOP went with men who were of impeccable character and integrity-- look where it got them? The little shitstain Democrat blogosphere miscreants drug it into the gutter and turned the race into a WWE event.... well, now they've got the ******* Grand Master of that coming at them from the other side. And he's facing off against the single most corrupt person to ever dare run for president.

Hillary will be his only opponent, and he's going to insult her in every possible way. Relentlessly, viciously and without regard. No one else in the GOP field can take the wood to Hillary the way Trump can and it's going to be brutal. The Democrats asked for it, now they're going to get it... full on Trump. Let's see how they cope with a taste of their own medicine?

Trump isn't stupid, he knows he has to bring the Cruz supporters on board and I think he will. Not 100%... that's unrealistic, but a good percentage of them and that's good enough. He's already bringing in people from outside the party that none of the other GOP candidates would have ever had a shot with. I guarantee you, THAT is scaring the tee-total crap out of the DNC.

If he has divided his own party, and a sizable portion won't vote for him, then his chances are not good.

Friends in the party all over the country (including Texas and Utah) are saying anecdotally many are saying they just cannot lower themselves to vote for him.

I reeeeeeally do think this getting off scott-free on the email thing is going to have a negative psychological effect on her campaign. I know a lot of you don't believe that.... wait and see. I think that SOME people out there will be compelled to vote for Trump simply to keep from rewarding her with the presidency after getting away with what she did. I think the way that all went down really hurt her credibility. It's not just that she wasn't indicted, it's the way it appeared to be some major finagling and backroom dealing in the process. Boss, I think, is correct in his analysis of the negative weight the email scandal and its spotty resolution impugning her character will bring to her campaign.

Whether the RNC's good beginning in propaganda emphasizing her lies through side by side comments by Comey and Clinton will continue depends on Trump.

Here is a chance for him to measure up, act presidential, and let the RNC do the job of undercutting Hillary.

I don't know if he can do that. His demagogic pandering to the 25% alienates far too many of the remaining 75%.

His demagoguery seems part of his psychological makeup, using it to strike out at and against all who oppose him or, in his mind, have appeared to oppose him. An interesting study would be an examination of his alleged bullying of business associates, wives and other family members, and friends. The demagogue seems to be an essential part of who he is.
