They absolutely have defunded and vilified the police in many blue cities, then crime skyrocketed, of course. Now they want more police. Democrats running these cities are too stupid for words:

New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Baltimore and a dozen other cities have all also reduced police spending.

What they were really doing is purging good cops out of police departments and replacing them with bearded neck-tattoo wearing yes-men.
Also....most of the cities with the worst crime are being run by black or gay mayors and DAs.
