The first attempt to regulate speech was by a Conservative, President John Adams. His conservative party passed the "Subversive Act" that made it a crime to criticize a Federalist politician. The act was quickly canceled when Jefferson and his liberal party took office. Wonder if Trump would like to pass a subversive act?
