Authoritarians have an established history of undermining democratic elections when they lose.
The United States had an impressive record of peaceful transfers of power based upon an acceptance of the will of the People from 1789 until 2020, the defeated Party accorded the legal recourses of recounts, audits, and court challenges, should the results be questioned by the loser.
Exhausting those legal options does not license illegal ones, e.g.,
It is essential that the United States champion and perpetuate the democratic ideal and respect for the law for it to maintain its self-respect and to serve as the model of self-governance for all nations aspiring to democracy.
Election deniers do not agree, despite having no credible evidence for the propaganda of fraud spewed by losers that can withstand scrutiny in any court in the land.
Many are loathe to openly admit it, but what they crave is authoritarianism.
