DeMint also addressed what he think Republicans should do about raising the debt ceiling when Congress returns so the government can continue to print and spend money.

“I think Republicans will say no,” DeMint told CNN’s Chief National Correspondent John King. “Unless that raising of the debt ceiling is accompanied by some dramatic spending cuts, something that would direct us toward a balanced budget in the future, Republicans will not support an increase in the debt limit.”

The Bush tax law presently in effect RAISES taxes in 2011, so the legally established 2011 Bush tax rates will be CUT, as if you didn't know.

Not exactly. The government can still spend the revenue it takes in, it just won't be able to deficit spend without raising the debt limit.

Bush implemented a completely unpaid for and unjustified tax cut for people who are obscenely wealthy.

Bush started 2 full on wars. Both of which were unpaid for.

Bush put up several social programs..also unpaid for.

He then turned a blind eye to the finance industry..until of course they collapsed..not just a small collapse..a systemic collapse that would have taken the whole world with it. Why do we know this? John Boehner was CRYING in congress for republicans to pass TARP.

Then the TEA PARTY comes along and blames ALL of our FISCAL woes on President Obama. Says we can't spend anymore. Says we have to cut the debt.

NOT 24 HOURS AFTER THIS HISTORIC ELECTION DO THEY COME IN AND SAY WE HAVE TO RAISE THE DEBT CEILING.

And you guys are doing verbal gymnastics..to defend this.

THAT TAKES THE ******* CAKE.

This would be a dream scenario for the Democrats. Not raising the debt ceiling would cause a financial crisis as bad as 2008. Remember the government is a third of the GNP.

You mean the impending collapse if TARP was not passed?

The same TARP that still has hundreds of billions unspent?

That crisis?

Tarp did not create a financial crisis, it just raised the deficit. So far the deficit has not created a financial crisis.

Not extending the debit limit would mean the US government would have to reduce spending by 1/3 immediately. That would mean a reduction in the GDP of nearly 10% in one year. The effect on the economy would be devastating to say the least.
