Dem Senator Facing Possible Logan Act Charges Over Attempt to Free MS-13 Linked Deportee

Releasing Garca is an internal decision

Garcia isn’t a US citizen.

Neither of which changes the fact that van Holland may have been guilty of violating the Logan act

If democrats indicted Trump on lesser charges surely this guy is liable for prosecution. let's see what you got Christie? Start putting these traitors in freaking jail.

Show the evidence? How many years have been saying that to MAGAts?

That would be great. Convict the bum of violating the Logan Act, trying to usurp authority from the Executive Branch, then arrest and convict him and throw him out of office stripping him of all benefits.

No, he is not, and you are guilty of liable. You have no evidence at all.
In reality, most Prog politicians are into their power. We need to tame China. We turned them into a world power. You guys have no understanding of unleashing the Asian abilities and their growing economies on the planet.

Send him to El Salvador. :p

Dem Senator Facing Possible Logan Act Charges Over Attempt to Free MS-13 Linked Deportee

18 Apr 2025 ~~ By Jason Walsh

Senator Chris Van Hollen is facing accusations of violating the Logan Act after his recent trip to El Salvador to lobby for the release of MS-13-linked illegal alien Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
The U.S. law from 1799 is aimed at preventing unauthorized foreign negotiations.
Prior to Abrego Garcia’s deportation, courts ruled there was “sufficient” evidence he was linked to the violent gang MS-13.
Despite the overwhelming evidence of Abrego Garcia’s gang ties, Democrats have attempted to paint him as an innocent Maryland father of three.
However, they failed to mention his dubious past, which includes domestic violence allegations from his wife.
On Monday, Van Hollen said:
“Kilmar Abrego Garcia never should have been abducted and illegally deported, and the courts have made clear: the Administration must bring him home, now.”
“However, since the Trump Administration appears to be ignoring these court mandates, we need to take additional action.”
“That’s why I’ve requested to meet with President Bukele during his trip to the United States, and — if Kilmar is not home by midweek — I plan to travel to El Salvador this week to check on his condition and discuss his release.”
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung and border czar Tom Homan slammed Van Hollen’s actions, calling them inappropriate.
Political consultant Roger Stone also noted that Van Hollen’s actions could result in prosecution under the Logan Act.

Commentary:
"It's not a crime when a Democrat does it." Only when they are people aligned with Trump.
Nothing will happen to the "Fine Gentleman from Maryland", Senator Van Hollen.
Of course, Van Hollen is now violating The Logan Act.
But he, just as with John Kerry, does not think he will suffer any negative consequences for doing it. None.
A few caustic remarks from the GOP is not a real consequence.
Van Hollen figures, the Trump Admin talks tough, but they don’t seem to actually prosecute anybody other than former gang members.
Pam Bondi should make an example of the great Senator from Maryland and indict him.
Despite never being enforced, the Logan Act remains in effect to this day and is often mentioned in political contexts.
Time to put up or shut up.

You are claiming "Prior to Abrego Garcia’s deportation, courts ruled there was “sufficient” evidence he was linked to the violent gang MS-13."
And that is clearly a lie.
There has never been any evidence at all of any MS-13 linkage at all, in any way, or at any time.
Since Kilmar came here at 15, the changes of MS-13 linkage would be nearly impossible.

And as far as Van Hollen going to El Salvador, that is perfectly legal since he had to establish if Kilmar was still alive, where he was being held, and under what laws he was being held.
Obviously the Logan Act could not have been violated because Van Hollen did not make any sort of deal at all. He just obtained information.

Well,

So, van Holland did go to another country to try and influence their decision (conduct), in relation to a dispute (the detention of garcia).

This would fall in line with the Logan act, wouldn't it?

No.
If we were to falsely assume that Van Hollen tried to negotiate something, that would not be illegal because it would be authorized by the rights of Kilmar, which are currently being violated by El Salvador and Trump. Undoing a crime is not a violation of the Logan Act.

Neither of which changes the fact that van Holland may have been guilty of violating the Logan act

Wrong. Since it was illegal to deport Kilmar and it is illegal for El Salvador to hold him, then anyone who improves these crimes is justified under the law.
