Dem Senate Passes $52B Bailout to 3 Companies Making Record Profit

How is a computer chip shortage a problem for government to solve?
Many industries depend on these chips to build their products. Our Ford plant shut down for two weeks last month because they did not have the chips needed to produce heavy trucks.
A private company, a private problem. The government need not be involved.

Wrong answer. The other countries have stolen the industry and it is up to our government to get it back.

The three big companies lobbying for this handout have a combined market cap over $5 trillion.
Remember: You’re not paying enough taxes.

Who are the 3 companies you say are being bailed out? Your article certainly doesn't indicate that this money will be going to 3 particular companies.

Also, there is actually a shortage of chips globally right now. It's causing problems with computers and gaming consoles, there are car manufacturers that have had to cut back production because they can't get enough chips for the computer systems, it's been a real and growing issue for quite a while. I'm not saying this proposed bill is the answer, just that there really is a problem with computer chip manufacture and supply.
If you can name 4 American chip manufacturers, please go for it.
I can't name a single American chip manufacturer that has a significant portion of the market. As your article points out, most chip manufacture is done by TSMC and Samsung. As I understand it, pretty much all of the high-end chips come from those 2 companies. If it uses a 5nm process, it comes from either TSMC or Samsung. Intel is supposed to be spending $20 billion on new factories in Arizona, and perhaps they will be able to take a share of that market, but I don't know, and I would think it will take time to get them going even if they will be able to produce the sorts of high-end chips in question. TSMC was actually supposed to be building a plant in Arizona, as well, starting last year: Apple supplier TSMC to build a $12 billion chip factory in the U.S.

You still haven't actually answered the question as to which 3 companies you think are being bailed out by this bill.

I guess the massive tax cuts and deregulation you've spent your life voting to gift them just wasn't enough
Democrats passed, shitforbrains.
The republicans have nothing, like usual?
Why deflect from Democrats handing taxes of middle income workers to mega wealthy corporations making record profits?

Oh yeah. Can’t figure out how to blame Trump for it.
Maybe in right-wing fantasy. The democrats still need to figure out how to pay for infrastructure upgrade and healthcare reform.

Biden is a moron one idiot wrecking ball, Trump will get this shit worked out when he is back in the office.

I don't think anyone is doubting that a computer chip shortage is problematic, I think the question is how does throwing a crapload of money at the problem solve it

It buys votes for the Democrats. Where would these semiconductors be made in the US? Likely in Silicon Valley, and how do those people vote? The Democrats also included a "prevailing wage" rider to the bill which means it will cost more money to make these things than general non-union competition. The Republicans tried to amend the bill to remove prevailing wage, but we all know how that went.

So tens of billions of dollars will be spent to "supposedly" encourage chip manufacturing in the US, which will greatly help the dying state of California where businesses and residents are leaving the state by the droves, while at the same time, increase taxes on our job creators.

Makes perfect sense to me.

You title says the measure was passed. Your link says they are lobbying for a handout.

Who is lying? You or your link?

Try this

Throughout the Bush years and even Trump, the left has done nothing but complain about government money going to multi-million and billion dollar corporations that don't actually need it. When tax reductions were passed, the left said it was a payoff to the rich friends of Republicans even though it was instrumental in economic activity and job creation.

Now all of a sudden government spending tens of billions when we are approaching 30 trillion in debt for private companies is okay. It's going to Big Tech, and we all know how big tech votes and protects their party.

I have no problem when government takes measures to lure jobs out of Asia and here to the US, but writing checks to them is not the way to do it.

Remember: You’re not paying enough taxes.

While the global shortage of chips continues to expand to more industries, the US Senate has passed a landmark bill that would unlock an eye-watering $52 billion to boost the national production of semiconductors.

The investment is part of a wider package of about $250 billion that covers scientific endeavors ranging from artificial intelligence to quantum communications, called the US Innovation and Competition Act.

What’s that have to do with money being taken at gunpoint from middle income Americans to mega corporations making record profits?

Don’t pay your taxes and see. Eventually people with guns knock on your door.

Democrats wanting to bring supply chains home. How dare they!
Trump did it. Without writing huge checks to companies making record profits.
Just massive tax breaks which resulted in record profits for the companies. Strange that Joe is having to bring the companies back if they were already here....
JFK used tax cuts to help the economy. It’s not writing a check to mega corporations making record profits.

When are you going to learn how to read, Festus?

to boost the national production of semiconductors.
