Dealing With Shoplifters in California

Honestly in my opinion, if your government refuses to protect and serve you - you have aright to protect yourself. And that includes protection from theft.
I wouldn't convict her of anything. And the only reason Dollar General fired her is they are afraid of the hordes that would vandalize/loot their stores if they didn't. And the police wouldn't do anything to protect them then either.

It's California. Shoplifting has been decriminalized. So the thieves know they won't be arrested

Yeah, but will the bike rider try to have the car driver arrested for the crash? I am guessing that leaving the store unattended, if that is what they are guilty of, is what got the car driver fired.
