The Democratic Party has always been the party of big ideas and when those ideas are born they stick around even in the face of the horrific damage they do to our culture, our communities and mostly to our children. Way back in 1965 Daniel Patrick Moynihan, Assistant Secretary of Labor in the Kennedy and Johnson administrations, warned the democrats that encouraging policies that violated the cultural norm of intact families with a runaway welfare state was a bad idea that could result in the formation of dangerous underclass in a cycle of multi-generational government dependence.
Moynihan, a democrat and a trained sociologist, was not only ignored, he was attacked vilified and ostracized by academics and politicians in the party of big ideas. We all know how that turned out-70 percent of black children are born out of wedlock. The resulting epidemic of single motherhood has so deeply cursed some minority populations that they overrun our prison system and even white American families headed by two biological parents with children all sharing the same last name pale in comparison to fifty years ago.
It doesn’t matter if the big ideas of democrats are bad ideas. Once they are set into motion they never go away even if the consequences are predictable and tragic. Fast forward to today and the democrats are still at it. The democrats in the Broward County School District in Florida decided that too many kids were getting police records for committing crimes. So they came up with a novel (big idea) solution-order the police to leave them alone and stop arresting them for crimes.
At first this appeared to be working like a charm as arrests went way down. They were essentially cooking the books to get a result that made it a numbers game. But as with a lot of big ideas it backfired. Nikolas Cruz, a child of Lyndon Johnson’s village, who probably has no clue who his biological parents are, went to a gun store with a clean police record in spite of a long history of what would be threatening criminal activity anywhere in the country but Florida. Cruz’s counterfeit background check was a death warrant for his victims.
Now seventeen people are dead, mostly children, thanks to the big ideas of democrats in Broward County that were tilting the table to make their big ideas look successful.
Democrats must be really proud of their big ideas.
