The seige of the capitol building took place to halt the electoral vote certification. They stormed the building to prevent this from happening. They did not politely knock on the door and enter peacefully, but broke windows and doors to gain entrance. Many did not know what they were doing, admittedly, but you what they say about ignorance of the law.

The constitution allows for peaceful assembly, and the redress of grievances. But nothing about breaking and entering into a restricted government building.
