Adolescents mainly obtained their guns from relatives (41.8%; 95% CI, 31.7%-52.6%), friends or acquaintances (22.0%; 95% CI, 13.2%-34.5%), the illegal market (29.6%; 95% CI, 19.3%-42.5%), strangers or persons who were shot (4.7%; 95% CI, 1.8%-11.6%), or licensed dealers (1.9%; 95% CI, 0.7%-5.2%). Most firearms were procured via theft from relatives (82.1%; 95% CI, 69.4%-90.3%).

How is it a theft? The parents should have locked these guns up or better yet, just gotten rid of them when they had kids.

When a child takes a parent’s car without knowledge or authorization, technically, it’s theft. Same with a knife or hammer or other tool…. All can be used as weapons like guns.

Parents could have locked them up or gotten rid of them or …… raised the kids responsibly around guns. If any of the children exhibit mental and emotional instability, en equal top priority is getting them professional assistance and not only worrying about the guns but other items in the house they could use to harm themselves or others.
