He won't invade Panama, he can't that would likely need 100,000 US troops and there'd be deaths on both side and the project would end in failure. There's no way the US could administers the canal if it had taken it by force, the resistance to it, terrorism, even bombing the canal, would all be come very real possibilities.

US trade via the canal would all but cease.

But that will never happen because Trump is opposed to the US getting into wars.
