You don't have to "sponsor" a wife for asylum. You just apply for a fiancé visa and complete a mountain of paperwork while preparing to get married. After you get married you go to the immigration office and register for a permanent resident card. Then after two years you are interviewed to check that the marriage is legit. Ten years after that you get interviewed again. Every ten years after you need to renew the permanent resident card. That's it.
