Yesterday in the Wall Street Journal there was an article that described suggestions that Ukraine and the Free World could undertake to bring about or hasten the end of this Russian Invasion of Ukraine War. One suggestion seemed particularly valuable it is called the "Bleeding Ulcers for Russian Commanders" policy it involves encouraging defections of Russian soldiers by offering them a new permanent life in Europe. Many of the Russian soldiers are conscripts who were told things like you are being sent to Ukraine to free Ukrainians from a Nazi regime and they would be welcomed by Ukrainians or that Ukraine was trying to build a nuclear weapon and was planning to attack Russia so you must defend Russia. The idea is to use these lies against the Putin Regime by clearly telling the Russian soldiers the Ukrainian people are not repressed by their government there is no Nazis running the Ukrainian government, the Ukrainian President is Jewish, and in 1994 Ukraine joined as a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty there is no nuclear bomb making in Ukraine. Focusing on these truths and that this Russian invasion of Ukraine is completely indefensible it is in violation of international law as called out by the United Nations General Assembly so this offer gives these Russian soldiers an option besides participating in this immoral war. Especially, since the Russian army's behavior in many instances where they have and will kill Ukrainian civilians is murder, it is a violation of the Ten Commandments specifically the commandment "Thou shall not Kill" and is a war crime which could result in Russian soldiers responsible for such killing going to jail for a long time. Numerous experts have said that the way to stop this war by Russian President Putin is to deteriorate, dismantle and weaken his military machine he has unleashed on Ukraine; if the Free World and Ukraine can get Russian soldiers to lay down their arms, refuse to fight and defect that weakens Putin's military machine and hastens an end to this war.
Having a good and effective program here would be critical to its success. One is you would need some European countries to participate and come out publicly with their participation that they have agreed to offer lifetime permanent residency with a work visa to any defecting Russian soldier and this applies for the soldier him or herself, for that soldier's spouse and children and for that soldier's parents. The head of the European Union would have to come out and say that the European Union fully supports this program to legitimize and give credibility to the program. The Ukrainian government would have to publicly come out and support the program and publicly commit to honoring the terms of the program most notably that the deserting soldiers will be turned over to the respective European government that has offered the deserting Russian soldier a new life in Europe!
The program should be set-up so that it has "defector during war" camps in Ukraine; the defectors will have to be kept in camps during the war because soldiers you want defecting are now in front area combat zones, you don't want to have Russian soldiers defecting now because they are hurting and they want to get out of combat and the possibility of being killed "then" when they get to Europe have a change of heart and go back to Russia and are then put back in the front lines healthier and stronger than they were the first time. You also have to have separate "defector during war" camps because you cannot put these defectors in regular prisoner of war camps because Russian POWs will kill these deserters as Russian traitors. You also have to have an agreement with the Ukrainian military that they will liberally classify Russian soldiers surrendering as deserters. By that it is meant that Russian soldiers that are losing their units fight or have lost it and on the verge of being killed and surrender they are not eligible for classification as "deserters"; but, Russian soldiers that are just walking toward the Ukrainian front lines with any type of white flag in their hands if they want to be classified as deserters they shall be classified as such; in short Russian soldier engaged in actual fighting are not eligible to be classified as deserters. If the Ukrainian military does not honor the terms of the program that fact will find its way back to Russian military units and Russian soldiers will dismiss the program as a trick and will not participate!
This program could use social media, it could use withdrawing Ukrainian forces to leave pamphlets on the ground describing the desertion option for Russian soldiers, the reasons why to, the benefits of and how to go about deserting. Actually, probably drones that commercial companies that deliver things like medicines in rural areas use to deliver such medicines could at night fly over Russian occupied areas and drop these pamphlets from the air disbursing them over the ground then Russian soldiers would come across them as they are going about their day. The reason why this program is called the Bleeding Ulcer For Russian Commander program because it creates an ongoing threat for Russian commanders from the standpoint you will have Russian soldiers who have defected and it gets back to other guys in his old unit and the other guys in the unit begin thinking why am a fighting and likely going to die for this unjust war that has no legitimate purpose at all why don't I do want my old buddy did and desert and save my neck; this bleeding of desertions causes personnel shortages for Russian field commanders thus effectiveness problems!
