Covid-19 Lessons

As Covid spreads among the un-vaccinated, one has to wonder why so many Americans are growing dumber and anti-science. What changed. Instant media contact has made every fool an expert. And Facebook is part of the problem. Our last president made stupidity an American value.

'Fauci: Smallpox, polio would still be in U.S. if "false information" spread like it has with COVID'

You used the champion of misinformation as an example for arguing against misinformation.
That’s misinformation from you!

America claims to be a smart nation, why then are so many so dumb today when it comes to quackery? First a radio host, next twelve nuts, and finally one wacko with nonsense and vitamins. Lord help those fools who follow nonsense. Our new prayer for America.

"A conservative radio host in Tennessee who urged listeners not to get vaccinated against Covid-19 has changed track and called on listeners to get the shot, after contracting the virus and ending up in hospital in “very serious condition”."

"More than 97 percent of people hospitalized for Covid-19 are unvaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

'The Disinformation Dozen' 'Why platforms must act on twelve leading online anti-vaxxers'

"Just twelve anti-vaxxers are responsible for almost two-thirds of anti-vaccine content circulating on social media platforms."

And did the radio host make a vaccinated person sick? More likely he caught it from a vaccinated person.
What’s your problem with freedom?

Quercitin and stilbene (post #103) are more interesting to study than FDA agents would have you believe.

There was no data shown to support the 400% claim.
Data in Israel and elsewhere show no appreciable difference in likelihood of transmission between vaccinated and unvaccinated.

Interesting article on our first vaccine. Since I come from a large family we often joke we each passed around some illness, with that also came preventive medicine. As a adult I am never sick but for safety our extended family did get the Covid vaccine. Be safe not a stupid follower.

Does it surprise you that chimps are smarter than anti vaxxers?

'Self-Medicating Chimps, Pugilistic Shrimp, and Other Remarkable Animals: An Illustrated Guide'

"Since the 1970s, researchers have known that chimpanzees — especially those in Tanzania or Uganda — use medicinal plants. They consume fruits with antimicrobial properties; sometimes they combine them with other substances to reduce the toxicity. Other chimpanzees eat flowers with antibiotic properties or leaves with antiparasitic ones, which act as laxatives or even induce uterine contractions. Chimpanzees also tear off bark and lick the resin to kill internal worms; the compounds, tests in vitro have shown, slow the growth of cancerous cells."

What exactly is an anti-vaxxer?

The lesson here is the republican party and their followers are a danger both to democracy and to the health and safety of the people. The effort starting largely by Reagan (and before) to destroy government shows today. South Korea is ahead of us in virus testing as is China. Learn this lesson folks and vote for progress next time. Trump answers tough questions from reporters like a school yard bully. Shooting the messenger is the response of the guilty. It is past time to bring back government of the people not special interests.

Did Trump Administration Fire the US Pandemic Response Team?

"Every Wednesday morning, a group of conspirators meets to plot out how to most effectively attack the federal government. This is not a group of rag-tag terrorists – they wear $2,000 suits and occupy powerful positions in society. But their ideas are politically radical and they do pose a real threat to the normal workings of government in the U.S. They are a group of leading conservatives who believe that government is a malevolent force in society and they have a fierce determination to drastically cut it back. They are convinced that the central problem in our country is too much government – too many social programs, too many regulations, and too much taxation – and they are committed to doing something about it."

"For decades conservatives have been demonizing government and not enough has been done to defend it. Ever since Ronald Reagan declared in 1981 that "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem," Republicans have been waging a political war against this institution. They have been joined in this anti-government crusade by libertarian thinkers, Tea Party activists, right-wing media pundits, and wealthy corporate lobbies. This powerful political coalition blithely ignores anything good about government and conducts a relentless smear campaign against this institution. They constantly play upon the fears and insecurities of average Americans and encourage them to blame all their problems on big bad government."
Government is Good - An Unapologetic Defense of a Vital Institution

"Well, I have been studying the Republican Party for over 12 years at close hand in the Capital of the United States. And by this time, I have discovered where the Republicans stand on most of the major issues.

Since they won't tell you themselves, I am going to tell you.

They approve of the American farmer-but they are willing to help him go broke.
They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing.
They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights.
They favor a minimum wage--the smaller the minimum the better.
They indorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools.
They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them.
They approve of social security benefits-so much so that they took them away from almost a million people.
They believe in international trade--so much so that they crippled our reciprocal trade program, and killed our International Wheat Agreement.
They favor the admission of displaced persons--but only within shameful racial and religious limitations.
They consider electric power a great blessing-but only when the private power companies get their rake-off.
They say TVA is wonderful--but we ought never to try it again.
They condemn "cruelly high prices"--but fight to the death every effort to bring them down.
They think the American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people.
And they admire the Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.

Now, my friends, that is the Wall Street Republican way of life. But there is another way--there is another way--the Democratic way, the way of the Democratic Party.

Of course, the Democratic Party is not perfect. Nobody ever said it was. But the Democratic Party believes in the people. It believes in freedom and progress, and it is fighting for its beliefs right now.

In the Democratic Party, you won't find the kind of unity where everybody thinks what the boss tells him to think, and nothing else." Harry Truman

Democrats used to be the leftist, progressive, liberals for a century, but not since the Clintons.
The Clintons endorsed foreign wars for profits, ending bank regulations like Glass-Steagall, illegal federal legislation like the War on Drug, the War on Crime, 3 strikes, mandated sentences, asset forfeiture, etc.
Democrats are not longer populists, but for the wealthy elite.
They sold out.

Um, no. That's bullshit. Reagan formed a coalition to defeat them

True. but at horrendous cost, and achieve nothing.
We wasted trillions on SDI, the Mujahedeen, etc.
And the resulting Russia that replaced the Soviets is much worse.
The Soviets at least tried to maintain some popularity with the people.
Putin is just a capitalist dictator.
