After the British variant and that of South Africa, Japan has now announced that it has discovered a new variant of the coronavirus responsible for Covid-19 on Monday, January 11. This variant was identified in patients returning from Brazil. At the moment, knowledge is limited, but this new strain increases fears of a resurgence of cases as the pandemic flares up in Japan and many other countries.
This new variant of Sars-CoV2 was detected in four people, including two children, whose nationality is not mentioned, returning on 2 January from a stay in Brazil. The analysis showed mutations partly similar to those of the variants of great contagiosity ,the severity of the symptoms he would be responsible for, or his response to different types of tests and vaccines. Brazil has been warned by the Japanese government of the existence of this variant.
