It's disrespectful to fly the flag once it gets damaged.

I will never understand why this matter is the big deal that it is in the first place. Every person has been born somewhere and if they don't stay there, they of course end up somewhere else. Why can't they just admit to where they are from and where they are now and just be done with it? In other words, why does it matter so much where a person was born when they don't have the ability to decide their place of birth to begin with? Once they are old enough to decide where they want to reside, why do they continue to stay there if they don't have even one good thing to say about their location?
