I decided to be a Steeler fan back in the 1970s. Since then, I've followed the team through thick and then. Not until last year did I give serious thought to stopping watching their games. I began this season like many, intrigued that they had a HOF QB (Aaron Rogers), probably his last year playing, lots of talent, including the highest paid defense in the league.

But last week against the Bills, the Steelers veered onto the same downward track, every year, every game, first they show signs of rallying only to completely fall apart in the latter season when it is needed most, or during the 2nd half. The Steelers cannot put together 60 minutes of football, their offense cannot put together any offensive drive more complicated than a high school team that every other team sees right through, and faced with the same play over and over, their defense is incapable of adjusting and coping.

It looks like the City of Pittsburgh finally gets it and 80% of the city is bracing for a LOSING season (8-9, 7-10, even possibly 6-11).

And head coach Tomlin is getting booed off the field with calls for him to retire, on top of that, several former players are saying he is washed up.

IMO, Tomlin has been washed up for years.

So, where does this leave Pittsburgh still facing the Ravens twice yet, including tomorrow in Baltimore? I predict the Steelers will lose. They will bomb. They will become 6-7. They will be met with boos and catcalls from their own fans. IMO, if Pittsburgh loses tomorrow and goes 6-7, this season is DONE for them, they won't even make it into the Playoffs as a wildcard.

The Ravens are a pretty good team faced with big problems, including a less than 100% Lamar Jackson, but I predict that despite their woes, the Steelers will find a way of losing to them.

Why hope for a team to make the playoffs when it is obvious that they will be knocked out in their first playoff game? They cannot beat a good team. Period.

I live in Pittsburgh but am not a football fan. But it's all people (men) talk about when they are out.

Hate to break it, but their season is already done.

They just don't have any gears in their transmission <-- little car lingo.

Well, if not mistaken, since the last failed run at a Super Bowl, the Steelers, now all a Tomlin team, have not won a single playoff game. They struggle into the Wildcards after lucking into it by the losses of other teams, only to be taken out immediately.

You are right. If their opponent has any kinds of chops at all in playing football, unless they are just very unlucky and part of the stadium falls on their QB, they'll beat Pittsburgh.

The Steelers are right now literally the most losing team in the NFL having set a record for how bad they lose going back 50 years. The point of this thread is that I used to follow the team to see them win.

Now tomorrow, I will watch the game just so I can see how bad they lose.

I predict they will be booing Tomlin throwing rotten fruit at the team, in Baltimore.

We lived in Raider Country back in the 70s and the Steelers were my mom's team. Bradshaw and company sure could tear it up.

I was then, as I am now, a Niners fan. SF isn't even going to get past the first round, IF they even make it to the dance.

The Steelers appear to a team in need of a rebuild. New coaches, new QB, a fast wide receiver etc.

But apparently the team is owned by an idiot spoon-fed rich son who buoys his each investment by sticking it out with them no matter how bad they are.

They only trade their top talent away like George Pickens, Antonio Brown, and many others, all of which usually go on to win rings with other teams.

Since I started watching the Steelers about 55 years ago, they've only hired a new HC twice, and I'm convinced Tomlin (who I never heard of) was a DEI hire.

Remember, the former owner of the team (Dan Rooney) sucked Obumma's cock and somehow managed to become ambassador under him to Ireland.

Tomlin may do you a favor and go to another team. :dunno:

With both sides of the family from pittsburgh I grew up with steelers everything and my brothers, still my team but yeah, they will again just get into the playoffs and be out the 1st round

they DO have a good young QB who did well in training but they went out and got rogers who's good but 41?
rudolph is not bad but not great

yes tomlim was hired as DEI under the rooney rule which was dumb at the time, he was a defensive coach for the bears I recall

he has no mind for offense, that is why brought in other's but he still has the yes or no vote on plays

now they have had some injuries that hurt, some players that take a dumb "I'm the man" type bullshit that hurt them

the parts are there, they just need to gel and they could have a good team but tomlin needs to step down/retire
but he would never be fired even though he's just average

I'm doubting the Steelers even make it as a wildcard this year. If they don't win tomorrow, they are pretty well cooked, and the early indicators for the game are not good. Steelers are not favored to win by the betters and even the sports people in the Steelers home city are betting /against/ the team. They either pull it together RIGHT NOW and find a way to win or they could easily end up in 2nd or even 3rd place in their division.

You mean that guy that hurt his finger? I have not seen him play. He is 3rd string. Rudolph did not look good the other week, he is at best, an OK back up. And yeah, Rogers is actually 42 now and has grey in his beard. He could almost be father to some of the younger players.

I never heard of Tomlin until they found and hired him, I understand he was a player in Chicago long ago but I don't remember him.

he has no mind for offense,
And not much mind for defense neither by the look of it. Look, Steelers have blamed most everyone for their woes, first it was this coach or that, this player or that, and they have replaced all of the "causes" of their problems yet the problems still exist. They've replaced everything but the damned head coach who simply does not inspire these players to go out and play anymore.

There is something wrong with an organization which hasn't a single 1st Round draft pick success story to show. Every single one has been a flop. Why are they paying TJ Watt a zillion bucks? For what? What the hell does TJ Watt do? Why did Cam Newton want more money a year after accepting a new contract and a raise?

Why are they paying that TE Friermuth a zillion bucks? They don't even play him. The bum is never even on the field. They got rid of a superstar WR in George Pickens, gave him away to the Cowboys, for an old Metcalf who is on the decline, because Tomlin could not do his job and get Pickens under his control.

The Steelers are predictable. They are not adaptable. Their defense is a sagging rust bucket despite being the highest paid in the NFL. The Steelers have set a new team record for the most rushing yards they've been beaten by in 50 years.

The Steelers offense has the FEWEST snaps of any offense in the NFL.
The Steelers defense has played through THE MOST snaps in the NFL.

In fact, their defense has played through TWO MORE GAMES WORTH of snaps than has their offense.
The Steelers do not deserve to win. The Steelers do not deserve even a wildcard appearance. The Steelers deserve to be sitting at home eating popcorn during the Playoffs.

I'll be watching tomorrow hoping and expecting the Steelers to fold like a cheap suit once again and take a pasting playing against even a mediocre team in flux like the Ravens. What would be even stranger would be if the Steelers showed up on Sunday like they had a fire lit under their asses and played like storm-troopers! At that point I'd have to ask: "Where the F were they last week???"

be nice, ravens are a pain in the ass and the steelers generally do well against them but they are in their home town
steelers lose the ravens get basically 2 wins and if they win the division the steelers fight for a wildcard which they likely won't get unless they play excellent down the stretch

Well, the Steelers lucked out. They actually played a fair game and for once came out aggressive. They beat the Ravens in Baltimore which is a good thing for them, but the win should have an asterisk next to it because the Refs really handed the game to Pittsburgh.

First Pittsburgh kicked a FG and it was called back for a questionable reason giving them the ball back resulting in 7 points in a TD. Then Baltimore scored a TD in the last minutes of the game--- their receiver caught the ball, he came down with both feet in bounds and was ruled a TD. This would have lead to the Ravens winning by 2 points. Instead, review called the play back and disqualified it saying the receiver did not maintain possession long enough to make a "football move" after the catch---

--- well, this is a rather vague and subjective call and frankly, it could have easily stood as a TD. But the Refs discounted the reception. This is the main reason why Pittsburgh won and now sits 4th seed in the AFC at 7-6 instead of the Ravens.

Pittsburgh now gets 8 days to recoup in order to play Miami next Monday night. Miami is pretty good. If somehow Pittsburgh manages to beat them, I believe their Playoff hopes are still alive, if only as a Wildcard. If Miami beats them next week, I believe Pittsburgh is pretty much cooked for the year and can address their travails with Tomlin and some of the players in the off season.

rogers played good, much needed win, pretty much a +2 but as I mentioned, they will barely get into the playoffs and get destroyed by the bills, patriots or denver

Teams rise and fall. It's been that way for a long time.

Look at Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics. That's guy's fortunes would rise and fall. Managed for 50 years. He had a losing record and is in the Hall of Fame.

Although one has to wonder if the Cleveland Browns will ever cycle back around.

yep, look at KC, does not even look like they will make the playoffs this year........no tear here

not the end, they have deep pockets and are willing to spend but sometimes the parts don't always fit and gel

they have some young QB's in the pipeline, rogers is still good but basically near retirement

with all my family from pittsburgh going back 3-4 generations I was practically born with a steelers hat on my head

many family members worked at US steel and they have one of the coolest logo's with real meaning

plus they are really old for a franchise

The Steelers' "problem" is that they are never bad enough to get a good draft choice, but not good enough to go anywhere in the playoffs.

A lot of people blame Tomlin for what seem to be stupid strategic moves, but he's an NFL head coach and the people who think he is stupid are nobodies.
