Everyone can live on minimum wage. And over a billion people around the world live on a helluva lot less (adjusted into dollars.) You just wont be very comfortable or happy. And Americans are spoiled and believe they're entitled to more and better standards of living than everyone else in the world consuming 25% of global resources despite being less than 5% of the planetary population.

I spent a summer street camping (wasn't homeless, I had one, I just wasn't in it for a few months.) I learned that meeting basic human needs is not only possible without a proper home, employment, etc. but when you don't have such things you have a lot more leisure time and fun living than when working a job solely because it pays you allowing you to pay bills.

The belief that everyone needs to work a crappy job to pay their bills (often for things they don't even need like cellphones) benefits the corporations who're the ones perpetuating that myth. 'Work hard so you can buy the useless crap we've convinced you you need in order to be happy.' But we don't need most of what we surround ourselves with. We could be even happier with a lot less since then we could be more choosy about employment, and how much we have to work.

Both sides of the minimum wage issue are objectively wrong being bought and paid for by the corporate donors to their respective campaigns. If higher minimum wage was a necessity, how do we explain illegal immigrants gladly taking menial jobs for less than the minimum wage while sustaining larger families while simultaneously being accused of being lazy?

Businesses owned by people in both parties, when the economic and regulatory climate dictates, will move. The fix is not trying to restrict them, but to create an economic and regulatory climate that is conducive to them making a profit here.
