so, is trump right? Are we now suppose to think if we come out of this with 100,000 to 200 thousand deaths, then his team did an excellent job controlling it? That's what the president is saying now....? that there could be 2 MILLION DEATHS, and 100,000 deaths only, would be like a miracle?

This is what we’re going to have to accept. I’m glad they’re being honest about the numbers. Mind you, that’s a best case scenario. NO-ONE has immunity. Therefore effectively everyone will get it. It’s going to be that way everywhere. Once the lock downs come to an end, it will re-emerge. Who knows maybe by that time it’ll die down in the news, but I doubt it. I’ve been trying to tell y’all how badly China screwed the pooch on this for the rest of the world. I’ve been calling this a the biggest crime against humanity in our lifetime on China’s part. No 3 week shutdown is going to magically fix that. Also, the EU should basically be seen as 1 country since they treat travel that way. It’s second to China as being the perfect place for a pandemic to spread within its boarders, to spread outside of its boarders it’s number 1. But there are cultural differences among the countries EU that also become factors, but in terms of the virus spreading, they love their planes and trains over there. But for instance in Italy, the family unit is tighter, and you greet with a kiss. Plus some dumb f*** Italian politicians thought it was a good idea to have “hug a Chinese day” in the midst of this, which partially explains why they’re getting rocked harder than Greece, where it’s also customary to greet with a kiss.

Sweden is the only country left with some testiklars and they’re quarantining the at risk pop, and letting everything else stay open. Talked to my cousin in upstate NY earlier. She says there are 8 people in all of Albany County hospitalized with Wuhan. All the problems stem from NYC.

You first have to understand how a virus jumps from animal to human first to understand how dangerous these wet markets are for humanity as a whole. Most of our common flu viruses come from domestic livestock that share similar body temps to us. It is an extremely rare event that a virus mutates from something that can infect a pig, to something that can infect a human. But viruses do mutate a lot so they get millions of lottery tickets a day to win the proverbial jackpot. Now, after that rare event happens in a particular pig or whatever, that pig needs to interact with a human in a significant way, and that mutated virus has to be able to jump from that pig to the human. This is another rare event, especially with wild animals. Now we’ve been interacting with common domestic livestock for millennia now, so the deadly diseases that jump between our species have killed off the genetic lines that are susceptible to the deadly diseases we trade among the species. What’s left is the genetic lines that pass on mainly mild diseases to each other.

A good example of this is smallpox, Europeans had been dealing with it for thousands of years, what was left were Europeans who had passed down immunity, or genetics that give them a better chance to fight off smallpox which is still an mf’er of a disease. Bats have a natural immunity because they raise their body temp to fever temps everyday when they fly. This helps kill of viruses. But a caged bat can’t fly. Therefore it’s loosing a natural ability to fight off diseases. Allowing the diseases it has to run rampant, allowing for a greater chance to mutate into something harmful. Mix that in with the incredibly unsanitary conditions in wet markets, basically everything that you could do wrong they do do wrong in the wet markets. You have animals shitting were people butcher (they barely butcher if at all, usually just a bamboo stick through the ass of whatever you caught), and cook. They have no problem with wiping the animal shit they got on their hand onto their pants. Washing your hands is a rarity in mainland China, and so are toilets. So now the virus chances of winning the lottery go dramatically up. This is true 3rd world places like Africa too, where the same level of sanitation is practiced. However, the problem with China is that the sheer amount of human bodies living on top of each other, and the ever increasing amount of air travel they participate in makes it way easier for these diseases to quickly spread. This is opposed to places like remote Africa where there’s minimal air travel, and way less population centers. Very few exotic diseases have made it out of those countries, except for basically AIDS, and Ebola a little bit, but that’s way easier to contain. This is why epidemiologists have been screaming about the wet markets in China for decades now. Only now it’s news worthy, or at least it should be. Thank you for this post- with all of the screaming about China, most of it misses the point that you raised- China wet markets and similar wet markets around the world that mix wild caught animals with domestic animals, allowing for the cross infection.

China is hands down lying. Underreporting by a factor of at least 15 all the way up to 40. That’s according to UK scientist. China is the perfect place for this virus to wreak havoc. No 3 week shutdown is going to magically fix that. Also, the EU should basically be seen as 1 country since they treat travel that way. It’s second to China as being the perfect place for a pandemic to spread within its boarders, to spread outside of its boarders it’s number 1. But there are cultural differences among the countries EU that also become factors, but in terms of the virus spreading, they love their planes and trains over there. But for instance in Italy, the family unit is tighter, and you greet with a kiss. Plus some dumb f*** Italian politicians thought it was a good idea to have “hug a Chinese day” in the midst of this, which partially explains why they’re getting rocked harder than Greece, where it’s also customary to greet with a kiss.

Anyway, the numbers aren’t going to be good anywhere. Once you stop shutdowns there will be re-emergence. Sweden is the only country left with some testiklars and they’re quarantining the at risk pop, and letting everything else stay open. It’ll be interesting to see how they do in the next couple of months.

ALL of these numbers are stabs in the dark other than the easily-counted ones like deaths.

We keep noting the case of this town (in Italia) which eradicated the virus, not by locking everything down but by testing literally everybody, symptomatic or not, to identify the silent carriers and then quarantining THEM. It worked. It's one thing to do that on a town level, quite another task to test an entire massive population, so unless and until that can be done to identify those silent carriers, lockdown may be going after a mosquito with a cannon, but it does the job.

As far as infection rate being slower, no not enough to make a difference. Basically only 1% of the US is infected. Could be as high as 5% now, maybe 10% just unconfirmed. Not enough to substantially slow. If we were looking at say 30%, that’d for sure put a noticeable dent in the parabola. But this is twice as infectious as the common flu, and hasn’t even begun to really hit yet.

Also, I don’t think China released this on purpose. But they still are very much responsible for the release of this. You have to understand the culture. Practicality above all. While we practice a mixture of morality and practicality, although it may not feel like that at times. But when you do business with the PRC, or even Chinese businesses you do notice it. I’m not saying they’re evil savages. Its just customary to take short cuts, lie, screw people over on deals, etc. It’s just how business is carried out. That being said there’s still a cultural saving of face ideal that makes for a bad and seemingly paradoxical combination. So what we consider the right thing to do, only gets done when it is the practical option. In this case the practical thing to do was cover this up, pretend like it’s just pneumonia, and demand the rest of the world continue on travel with them as usual and vice versa. No, their job is to ask questions,they think might be of interest to the public of the country. Part of Trumps job is to answer questions from the public. Been that way since the first newspaper. No, their job is to ask questions,they think might be of interest to the public of the country. Part of Trumps job is to answer questions from the public. Been that way since the first newspaper. As far as infection rate being slower, no not enough to make a difference. Basically only 1% of the US is infected. Could be as high as 5% now, maybe 10% just unconfirmed. Not enough to substantially slow. If we were looking at say 30%, that’d for sure put a noticeable dent in the parabola. But this is twice as infectious as the common flu, and hasn’t even begun to really hit yet.

Also, I don’t think China released this on purpose. But they still are very much responsible for the release of this. You have to understand the culture. Practicality above all. No, their job is to ask questions,they think might be of interest to the public of the country. Part of Trumps job is to answer questions from the public. Been that way since the first newspaper. Most presidents just deal with it better, like Reagan, Kennedy, Clinton and to an extent Obama. Most reporters are respectful of the Office of the President of the U.S. Trump answers them appropriately. The problem is when obviously biased reporters try to characterize Trump as being "too upbeat." It is not their job to foist their opinion on the American Public. Over all actually a good briefing. Better tone and better knowledge of the score. It actually did sound like he gets it now. Him sounding like he gets it now may not be much to some, but I have mediocre expectations of him due to past performance. So, it was something to me. He didn't say anybody would have to be appreciative, for him to do is job. He only took time to get petulant with a couple of the reporters. he backed off talk of opening by easter and filling the church pews. Somebody got to him, or maybe the story of his friend falling into coma is true and that got to him. I don't know. Not sure who you are addressing but, a few reporters ask snarky questions aimed at doing a 'gotcha.' They are pretty obvious about it too. I see no news value in asking a President a question that presupposes how he thinks and then project that in a question. Thankfully Trump didn't fall for it and called out the snarky reporter. It reminds me of the old interrogation technique of asking a perfectly innocent man...."Tell us, when did you stop beating your wife and children?"

You provided only snippets of what Trump said with absolutely no context. The question was meant to be a 'gotcha.' As I said there are a few reporters that do this and it is NOT journalism. If I were Trump, I would ask the reporter "How does your thinking affect what you publish?" OR, "Why do you only report snippets of conversations and leave out the context?" Most Americans are not questioning Trump's 'thinking' and can see what he is actually doing. Hell, he holds press conferences every day sometimes for hours answering reporters' questions and having his team respond as well. WTF else do you want?
