Corker slams GOP colleagues: 'We might poke the bear!' - CNNPolitics

Tennessee Republican Sen. Bob Corker accused his party of cowering before President Donald Trump in an impassioned speech on the Senate floor Tuesday.

In an animated exchange, Corker -- who was trying to get a vote on an amendment as part of an ongoing debate over the Senate's defense bill -- argued that Republicans were blocking his trade proposal because they were afraid of Trump and what he might do to the party if they upset him in an election year.
"We might poke the bear!" said Corker, who is retiring at the end of his term. "My gosh, if the President gets upset with us we might not be in the majority," he said referring to sentiments he often hears from colleagues.
Corker has worked for the last week to try to get a vote on his amendment that would roll back Trump's trade authority and give Congress the power to check the President's ability to impose tariffs on national security grounds, like the steel and aluminum ones he announced earlier this month on US allies.

So he's saying that the GOP establishment has finally keeled over to the votes of their peeps? That's progress, I'll take it.

So ole Bob grew a pair of balls now that he is leaving......its never ceases to amaze me how courageous a politician becomes when he isn’t concerned about getting elected. They are all a bunch of phonies!

Yes, most know Trump would campaign against them if they speak out .. they're cowards, afraid of representing those who elected them.

Among many things we've learned the last two years; Republicans in Congress are genuine cowards. No balls. The other is that Evangelicals are not Christians. They willingly voted en masse for one of the most immoral humans alive and continue to support him. They are like the Catholic Church were in medieval Europe, who allied with whoever was the king or dictator at the time to keep the population in line.

Weakness is the true hallmark of deeply held conservatism.

You don't have to think Corker is a profile in courage to know he is right about his fellow Republican Senators. Trump is usurping congressional authority with his spurious "national security" claim, as justification for haphazard tariffs. Congress is afraid to assert its constitutional power.

As a matter of national security, I would like to see us cease getting steel via China and Vietnam, Communist nations that really don't have our best interests in mind. It would be better to manufacture our own, even if it would be more costly.
