President Trump was following the established protocol by walking/inspecting the assembled troops there and then saluted the flag before rejoining PM Takcaichi to acknowledge/greet other assembled dignitaries.

President Trump received a royal treatment in Japan such as was never afforded President Biden. Trump is respected in the world. Biden not so much.
