Confederates Look To Win 'Second Battle Of Olustee' In Florida

Indeed slavery was stupid and wrong but also remember NO confederate flag EVER flew over a slave ship...that would be the amurrican flag. So the same people supposedly fighting for the slaves were also the ones bringing them here and also Lincoln had plans to send them all back to Africa which is why he was assassinated.

I'd be depressed to wonder what Ayran Nation website you are getting your history from.

For the record, by 1861, the Slave Trade had been effectively stamped out, courtesy of the Royal Navy.

If you have a battle reenactment, bub, you need two sides: Union and Confed.

Have a reenactment does not mean the Confederates and their cause are being supported: just the opposite.

The bad guys lost the war.

you are correct in following my earlier comment.

That I support the idea the the bad guys lost the war, yes. That the national government should celebrate both sides, no.

A federal monument celebrating the union soldiers should be erected in time for the 150 year celebration.

The state can build one for the confederate traitors if it wants.

First off the confederates weren't traitors, they had a difference of opinion on the way things should be run and whether or not they had to stay in the Union the're states joined.

Secondly there already is three monuments to the Confederates according to the article, the one to the Union soliders would be in addition too those monuments.

Were all American. We've fought along side each other in many wars since the Civil War. It's 150 years later, if this is the way people still feel about eachother, maybe we should let the South secede. A house divided against itself won't stand any better now than it would 150 years ago. If the haters want to keep hating, let them leave and good riddance.

First, yes, they fired on Old Glory and refused electoral, constitutional process: traitors.

Second, having an Union monument is appropriate.

Third, the confeds were not acting like "all Americans".

North started the war not other way around. Tyrant named Lincoln and his Marxist supporters did that. South only wanted to be free.

No, the South wanted to keep holding slaves when everyone else knew that was wrong.

This is nothing to be proud of. It should be a source of profound embarrassment.

The South refused to follow constitutional, electoral legitimacy and started the war.

The reasons for the war weren't that cut and dry. Understand that it wasn't just about slavery, it was about economics and states rights. What you have been fed in schools is just the glorified version from the winning perspective.

That said I have absolutely no clue why Southerners have to be assholes about it today. Obama administration aside, what about being part of the United States today would you change? It's 150 years later, the South is rebuilt, you have jobs, you've had several Southern Presidents take office so you've been represented, so what? Do you want slavery back?

Gettysberg is dedicated to both sides even though it was Union state and was a Union victory. Union Vets back in the day weren't happy with it but nevertheless the Confederate states who fought are represented there.

"The first Confederate monument on the Gettysburg battlefield was dedicated in 1884 to the 1st Maryland Battalion. It took years for the next to follow. There were a number of reasons. Southern states were impoverished after the war, Gettysburg was a Union victory fought on Union soil, and the battlefield commission was controlled by Union veterans whose rules discouraged the meaningful placement of Confederate monuments.

As time went on the importance of the Battle of Gettysburg and a growing spirit of reconciliation combined to bring some southern monuments to this northern field. Many of the veterans who strongly associated with their regiments had passed on by then, so efforts were concentrated in state monuments. Virginia was the first in 1917, but the last Confederate state monument, that of Tennessee, was not dedicated until 1982."

So again what excuse does the South have for being assholes 150 years later? All who fought are dead, and you'd think after fighting several wars together since then, the South would get over the butt hurt and reconcile. Next time they want to secede let em, it's not worth the trouble.

Actually its singular there sparky. I am a National Socialist. So don't include other NS's for my view of the south. I was born here and I will die here and I respect our heritage and culture.

Really? Is that how you explain your motto, "Hitler was right?"

When I used to re-enact I did both northern invader and a south loving Confederate. The Yankee stuff was more expensive with the fake breastplates etc. In my experience true buffs would rather play the rebs. Wearing that shit in the summer was brutal though.

why are you such a miserable troll? civil war reenactments are done all the time, and notice both union and confederate are represented, else it wouldn't be a reenactment.

sheeesh

I love portraying union soldier's I could die in the most grotesque manner

I did one where my Grandfather served. 2 Texas Generals died in that field but the NPS won't let you do a full recreation which blows. I understand their reasoning though.

They want folks to admit they were right when they weren't.

Untrue you fucking little shit stain. We want to protect the truth.
But you wouldn't understand that.

The "truth" is that the south started a war to prove they were better than the slaves and lost.

At many re-enactments they have to draft folks to dress in the blue. Everybody wants to wear the grey.

Today's argument isn't about right or wrong it's about deep seated resentment. The Resentment is so bad you have people whose family's were sitting in Europe in the 1860's hating. I understand that it still lingers Hence the name Ernest Sherman* has been passed down in my family to this day. But the country will Never heal until we reconcile so anyone who loves this country the way it is now should work toward that end. Put up the monument FL.

* No my family did not participate in Sherman's March, they were stuck in the trenchs at Richmond Virginia.
