BTW. There is a statute of limitations issue coming up, thus they needed to indict Comey now.

There's a 5 year statute of limitations. The original perjury was in 2017 and the statute of limitations would have been expired already if Rafael Cruz didn't get Comey to double down on the lies at a Judiciary Committee hearing on 9/30/2020.

So yeah, the statute of limitation was nearly over. Kudos to Cruz for his prescience.

I'll gladly wager a month of leaving the site. On 2 to 1 odds that he walks. But before you agree to it I want you to consider this.

This is what the DOJ has to overcome. First they have to overcome pre-trial motions. One of which will surely be selective prosecution. Considering Trump has openly called for political enemies, including Comey to be indicted this is by no means trivial.

Then at trial, they will have to show beyond a reasonable doubt to a full jury, that Comey didn't just wilfully lie but that those lies had material effect on a Congressional investigation.

Also consider this. The DOJ wanted to bring three charges. One of which the Grand Jury refused. A grand jury doesn't need the beyond reasonable doubt standard. It simply needs a majority and no defense is presented.

In short I think 2 to 1 are very reasonable odds. And not because of some grand conspiracy but simply because this DOJ likely doesn't have a good case.

So what do you think. Want to take the bet? I'll take 2 months off, you'll risk one.
