Combating the pandemic should never have been a divisive, partisan matter.

You appear to be quite confused. You lash out irrationally at the majority of patriotic Americans who elected the President and consistently approve of, in stark contrast to the Cry Baby Loser they booted.

Dangerous terrorist cult:
You're profoundly confused, but being indoctrinated by a terrorist cult will do that alas. You lash out irrationally at the majority of patriotic Americans - as you've been programmed to do - in favor of the deranged fascist cult which cheated demented rapist/career criminal/child groper Biden and psychopath Harris into the White House (which only the brainwashed approve of) in stark contrast to embracing sanity and reality.

Dangerous terrorist cult:

The Democrat Party.

Is anyone surprised that a thread, nominally pointing out the dangers of divisive partisanship, devolves immediately into a partisan pissing match?
There is no devolvement; the OP itself was partisan rubbish, and its author's intentions clear. It began and proceeds as a partisan pissing match.

After the tragic experience that resulted from scoffing at medical science and lashing out at public health professionals, some politicians are finally flipping as a requisite of self-preservation.

“We have it totally under control!”
"China has been working very hard to contain the Coronavirus.
The United States greatly appreciates their efforts and transparency.
It will all work out well. In particular, on behalf of the American People,
I want to thank President Xi!"

['We have it totally under control.' A timeline of President Donald Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic - Poynter]

The Former Guy surrendered to the pandemic as infections and deaths soared under his impotent leadership. Increasingly, Republicans who learned the hard way are not making that mistake again. Even the crackpots' own propaganda outlets are acknowledging the surrender to truth:

Alabama Republican Governor Kay Ivey has joined the Biden Administration and the CDC in attacking “unvaccinated” residents in her own state, blaming them for rising “cases” of COVID-19. It is “time to start blaming the unvaccinated folks” for rising cases of Covid-19...

Florida officials defy DeSantis as infections spike
Local officials across Florida are bucking Gov. Ron DeSantis and his anti-mandate coronavirus strategy as infections soar in the state and nation. They’re imposing vaccine and mask requirements for government workers and even declaring states of emergency. In a sign of how worrisome the new Covid-19 surge is, Disney World is ordering all guests over 2-years-old to wear masks indoors at its Florida theme park, regardless of vaccination status.

Republican Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has said
that the COVID-19 “vaccines are saving lives.”

“If you are vaccinated, fully vaccinated, the chances of you getting seriously ill or dying from COVID is effectively zero,” DeSantis said during a Wednesday press briefing.
“If you look at the people being admitted to hospitals, over 95 percent of them are either not fully vaccinated or not vaccinated. And so these vaccines are saving lives.”
The ideological dogmatists who fell in line behind the vacuous blowhards are witnessing the same belated renaissance in the fact of anthropogenic climate change.
When reality is your adversary, and it advances relentlessly, you may as well just close your eyes and think of England.

well, kevin. if the best of the best of the world choose a fat fucking troll for their representative/führer in their best election system evah, then this is the well earned result: HAHAHAHAHA

It's exactly where the OP started it. He was openly, blatantly engaging in divisive partisanship, even as he played lip service to purporting to condemn it.

I think it all started with the Left constantly blasting Trump for his handling of the virus.

They constantly did it. CNN had a permanent COVID death count tracker on both their home page and every broadcast, just like all the other MSM. They all promptly removed it once Biden was installed.

But compare Biden's record with Trump's...

As of January 20th, 2021, there were 384,359 deaths in the US under Trump. He only had two vaccines for about a month.

As of July 29th, 2021, there are now 578,767 US deaths. That means there have been 194,408 deaths under Biden in six months. Biden Admin has three vaccines, developed with the help of the Trump Admin's Operation Warp Speed.

32,000 deaths per month on average under Trump, with mostly no vaccines
32,000 deaths per month on average under Biden, three vaccines

The Left blamed Trump, when really Fauci, the CDC, and WHO were more at fault.

They blasted Trump for instituting a travel ban from China less than two weeks after the first confirmed US case. Fauci later took credit for it.

They blasted Trump for really trying very hard to manage all facets of the virus and try all sorts of things, from delivering hospital ships and providing tens of thousands of unneeded ventilators, to asking health professionals to investigate disinfectants, UV light treatments, and curative treatments like Hydroxychloroquine, Remdesivir, and Ivermectin.

The Left wanted lockdowns, school closings, masks, mandatory vaccines and everyone to "obey," even when countless tyrannical Leftists were found hypocritically violating their own orders.

The Right wanted recommendations and the freedom for everyone to make their own decisions.

Is there any surprise it turned into a partisan issue?

I think of it as medical science finally prevailing with so many prominent Republicans now, finally, echoing the President's advocacy for vaccination.

Trump's misinformation, misdirections, petty sniping, and other failures are now being remedied.

schmidlap: "After the tragic experience that resulted from scoffing at medical science and lashing out at public health professionals, some politicians are finally flipping as a requisite of self-preservation."

For those few Republicans willing to stand up to trump and his legions of brainwashed trump Nazis, it's way too little and far, far too late.

The former cheeto-in-chief has too much influence on the same simple-minded 74 million trump Nazis from the 2020 election. In 2022, their devotion to their cult leader will have them elect more of the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene, candidates that pander to the QANON nuts and spew the same hate-filled bullsh!t the trump Nazis have been devouring since their hero trump hit the campaign trail in 2015.

Combating the pandemic should never have been a divisive, partisan matter.
No, it shouldn’t.

But conservatives are inherently divisive and partisan.

As the pandemic intensified during the first quarter of 2020, conservatives feared that the appropriate, necessary response would result in a recession thus derailing Trump's reelection bid.

No, I don't.
The trump Nazis are mired so deep in conspiracy theories, their grip on reality has completely disappeared. Which is the goal the GOP strategists set for the party over five decades ago with introduction of their Southern Strategy.

As the Southern Strategy evolved over the years, not only has it fed the racism of America's white Christian conservatives, as GOP politicians regularly introduced new "enemies of conservatism", the right-wingers were made to fear (and hate) numerous nonwhite races, the faithful of non-Christian religions, and other white Americans with different political and religious views.

Adding to this hatred and fear is the right-wingers' growing belief in their own constant victimization from all corners. This created the perfect climate for trump's entry as the right-wingers' (soon to be trump Nazis') beloved cult master and savior.

Coupled with the Democrats' pathetic performance to date, with an unknown number among them joining with the congressional Republicans to undermine our voting rights and thus our constitutional government, it would appear the Republicans' Southern Strategy has succeeded well beyond all original expectations.

Where the nation is headed after the 2022 Mid-term Elections all depends on which members of Congress honor the oath they swore to when first seated.

Ironically, the Former Guy's impotence in confronting the pandemic was a serious blow to the U.S. economy, now surging back.

The frustrating thing about this thread, is that the over-the-top partisanship WAS/IS at the heart of our fumbling response to covid. Our leaders are making decisions about how to resolve the pandemic based on how it will impact their party's agenda. And that's shitty.
