Columbia University reached a landmark settlement with the Trump administration on Wednesday in which it will pay $221 million and pledge to reverse racially discriminatory practices and resolve civil rights violations against Jewish students.

The settlement came after four months of negotiations that started when the administration pulled approximately $400 million in federal grants, the New York Post reported. Most of that money will be returned under the settlement.

Columbia will pay $200 million to the U.S., as well as $21 million into a claims fund for Jewish employees who were discriminated against during anti-Israel on-campus demonstrations that followed Iranian-backed Hamas' terrorist attack on Oct. 7, 2023, and Israel's military response in the Gaza Strip.

Literally transformational change in this country - 6 months

They are paying $200 mil - BUT - were not required to admit guilt, and their access to much-much-much more money than that is FULLY restored. Without faculty changes, and only minor "promises" of change.
Business as usual.

Okay

Bussing as usual just cost them a bunch of money.

Here's the thing ... they have learned ... "What Uncle Same giveth, Uncle Sam can taketh away".

They will think twice before feeling untouchable again.

The university shouldn't have to admit guilt because it's not a criminal case. It's outright discrimination by the university. Settlement means the institution is liable like it or not.

Granted, admission of violating discriminatory laws. Which they, and all others, blatantly did and do - and I am sure Columbia will go right back to doing. Just maybe not exactly like they did.

At least someone is doing something, instead of just despairing over it and then going back to doing nothing about it.

We can't let a desire for "perfect" get in the way of us getting "pretty good"

Winning feels damn good.

I agree - it just irks me to see, over and over, elites getting away with all they do.
It is good this happened, but will it stop the practice? Oh hell no. Because this didn't start happening 20 years ago. Trump is simply doing what administrations should have been doing all along.

I agree, but we have to start somewhere. Remember we are only 6 months in to Trump v2, and what we need to do is show results before the midterms to get more stuff done in the 2nd half, as well as setup for 2028, which should be either Vance or DeSantis.

I think they realize that at least under Trump they are going to have to toe the line or they will be right back to square one again.

This is a good thing. Maybe colleges will do a better job of policing hate.
The bad part is, many of these colleges allow it because they have hate themselves. That's why they don't police it. They are on the protester's side. The overall big agenda of attacking Israel is more important than the Jewish students they have.

Why the **** is the government getting 200 million ? This money should go into a college fund that pays tuition for students that deserve it and are actually pursuing a degree that is useful.
