Colorado River is Declining.

Only in summer ... in winter Michigan is surrounded by ice ... and the ground freezes ... brrrrrr ... it'll take Colorado River water to grow your lettuce in January ...

Beginning in November, harvest of leafy greens will transition to the southern growing areas of California near Imperial County, south of Los Angeles and in Arizona, mostly near Yuma. Throughout the winter months, these southern growing areas of California and Arizona are the primary source of lettuce and leafy greens.

The Colorado River flows for approximately 1,450 miles and provides water to seven states in the Western U.S. that are part of the Colorado River Basin. Divided into two regions; the Upper Basin includes Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming; and the Lower Basin includes Arizona, California, and Nevada.

Shit you're right.

So cut off Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. The Upper basin states.

I don't think that drastic a cut is necessary ... but we do need to be more realistic with how much water we expect from this drainage basin ... and be smarter with the allocations ...

Alas ... we're up against some powerful monied interests ... golf courses and casinos ... farmers will always be second seat ... at best ...

As they should. Golf is important.

Gimme 110 yards and a 5-iron and I'll show you how to one-putt a green ...

I played a golf course ... this was 1976 ... western Kansas ... just the brown prairie grass and sand greens ... the course played slow but didn't need irrigation ... grandpa said I brought that nasty slice with me ... but then he let me call him a hooker ...

I started a thread about No Mow May and conservatives lost their minds at the idea of them having to get rid of their grass and not water/cut (using gas) grass anymore.

I think if everyone in America stopped watering and cutting (using gas) their grass that would make a HUGE difference on the environment, how much water we have, and how much gas costs.

Lawn mowing also contributes to the nation's petroleum con- sumption and pollutant emissions. Mowers consume 1.2 billion gallons of gasoline annually, about 1% of U.S. motor gasoline consumption.

1% may not seem like much but consider 1 degree warmer oceans means a lot.

and besides gas

To provide your lawn with one inch of water takes a little over half a gallon per square foot (0.623 gallon to be more exact). That means that every 10'x10' area will require over 62 gallons of water.

We should stop building cities and go back and live in the forest and jungles.

How much pollution does your boat make?

Oh you poor baby ... you're in a "humid" climate, which means, in part, you receive your annual precipitation (generally) over the course of the year ... so you have to mow all year long ha ha ha ha ha ha ... whereas in the Colorado River Basin, we have a distinct Dry Season, where we receive less than 1% of our rainfall during the summer months ... I have a ryegrass lawn and it's still brown and dead looking, hasn't grown since June ... I mow once a month whether it needs it or not ...

If we didn't mow in spring ... we'd have piles and piles of straw everyplace ... 95ºF temps, 5% RHs and a 20 mph wind ... and you know how Californians like to play with matches ... if we don't mow, the county will come in and mow for us, then send us the bill ... that's a valid public safety measure ... but we have the opposite problem ... clean fresh mountain-pure spring water bubbling out of the ground just everyplace ... it's a nuisance ... we measure rainfall by the foot ... four feet here in the valley bottoms, 8 feet on the uplands and 16 feet atop the hills (Mt Hebe Radar Station to be exact) ...

Aqueduct ... The Dallas, Oregon to the headwaters of the Sacramento River ... easy peasy ...

=====

1% may not seem like much but consider 1 degree warmer oceans means a lot.

And that's why it takes four times the energy to change temperature that single degree ... we can compare the oceans in 1980 and again today and see all the difference a single degree makes ... care to elaborate what you see as being caused by this single degree? ... what is happening today that's wasn't happening in 1980? ... and how much is "a lot"? ... like hypercanes a lot? ...

One day boats will be battery powered. They're doing it all over the world.

I don't pull a skiier or drive around a lot. So very little. Its a pontoon. 50 horse. I've probably went through 50 gallons this summer that includes my nephews use the shit out of the boat.

I can't do it alone. WE have to do it.

Did you also cry when we took lead out of the gas? When we took your leaded gas away?

We should do better that's for sure.

You are killing this planet.

You are killing this planet.
Yes I agree we are. We should do something about it. We are. It's coming. I'm no longer worried. I realize that if things dry up, less people will spread out west and south. Fewer people having fewer kids. It's good for the human race.

But I was on a 9 hour ebike ride yesterday and saw some beautiful families at this cider mill. We figured it out my batteries can go 35 miles. I have 2 so I can ride 70 miles in one trip. My ass can't handle 70 miles anyways so i can ride as long as I want. My buddys went 40. This woman told us here's goes 45 miles one battery. Yesterday we rode 40 miles and we were tired. The next ebike I get, I won't have to buy a second battery allah willing.

No, we are not killing the planet actually. The planet will be fine if humans can't survive he climate. The planet will be fine. So will cockroaches stupid.

This year, Colorado has had nothing but floods, and right now they're in the midst of one of the greatest landslide and avalanche threats ever, with high snow packs everywhere, ice has cut 5 to 15 feet in many ravine areas, and spring prospects are disastrous with mud and landslides ahead when it all melts.

Last year, environmentalists were jumping around because it got a little dry. This year is more than making up for last year. I don't see what all the excitement is about, except that an election is coming up, and the rants from last year are still being pinched for a few more votes if those who aren't paying attention to the snowpack of 2013/2014 don't do a little reading instead of listening to funny men hype things up for political assassination of the opposition party.

Politicizing the weather is the stuff of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Colorado does not equal the Colorado River.

We told you so

Lake Mead and Lake Powell nearly three-fourths empty and their water levels continuing to fall. Some researchers say the seven states that depend on the river would have been better prepared had they acted years ago.

You global warming deniers love to say our predictions haven't come true. Here's one that did.

“If I’ve learned anything recently, it’s that humans are really reluctant to give things up to prevent a catastrophe,” said Brad Udall, a water and climate scientist at Colorado State University. “They’re willing to hang on to the very end and risk a calamity.”

I suggested people stop watering and cutting their grass and they just about lost it. Even for 1 month. No Mow May. They lost their minds.

He said it’s just like humanity’s lack of progress in addressing climate change despite decades of warnings by scientists.

You're a monster.

Scoffing at the notion that man can't adapt to different climates.
