NIL combined with the transfer portal has become a cluster f*ck

For those who dont follow college football NIL stands for name, image, and likeness. It allow private donors to pay amateur athletes in exchange for a sham advertising gig

The transfer portal allows players to change schools at will for more money or more playing time

Or maybe because the coach yelled at them

18 year old kids who never played a down in college are being paid millions of dollars to attend college

And in some cases changing schools every year

It is seriously affecting the game and college football’s public image

Well, the VERY worst thing about college football that it requires talent, dedication and hard work.

What kind of message are we telling all those kids that have been raised on participation awards that we aren't being inclusive this time?

We need equity. We just can't risk hurting so many feelings.

Yep.

Broken bones heal. But wounded feelings are forever!

It's a game changer the NIL $$$. The transfer rule is good though. Joe Burrow could not start at OSU, goes to LSU wins the Natty. Jalen Hurts got benched at Bama then went to Oklahoma. Russel Wilson got benched at NC State then went to Wisconsin.

Is it because it is such a rubbish sport not really played seriously anywhere outside of the US?

Compared to real men's Rugby and the artistry of football it is seen as a lady boy sport with little need for a functioning brain .

Those players had to sit out a year after transferring

So they didnt just wake up one morning and do it on a whim

Like most things in life too much of a good thing is usually bad

We have players now who played for four different schools

True, but I am in favor of players being able to transfer and not sit out for a year.

How about a one-time transfer rule?

And a narrow window of opportunity, say two weeks in February?

As of August 2022, a D1 athlete can enter the NCAA Transfer Portal only during specified time windows. They are as follows:

  • For fall sports, a 45-day transfer window begins with a given sport’s “championship selection” (i.e., bowl game announcements or release of NCAA tournament brackets).
  • For winter sports, a 60-day transfer window begins with a given sport’s championship selection.
  • For spring sports, a 45-day transfer window begins with a given sport’s championship selection.

How many times can you transfer colleges?

NCAA colleges allow transferring more than once. But some transfers could incur penalties. Especially if you’re transferring to a four-year college for a second time.

Let’s suppose you want to transfer to your third four-year school. Let’s also suppose that the previous two four-year colleges you attended offered your sport. In this hypothetical, the transfer is allowed but with a penalty of sitting out a year. That means you will not play and possibly not practice with the team for an entire year.

Now let’s look at another hypothetical. You’ve transferred from a four-year school to a junior college that’s only two years. Now you want to transfer back to a four-year school to finally complete your degree. In this scenario, you can transfer without penalty. Even though it will be your second time playing for a four-year school, it will be your first time transferring to one. If your grades and athletics are up to snuff, you can practice and play.
