Attorney General Pam Bondi was caught off guard Thursday when President Donald Trump’s handpicked US attorney, Lindsey Halligan, secured New York Attorney General Letitia James’ indictment from a grand jury, two sources familiar with what happened told CNN.
Halligan, who has been running the Eastern District of Virginia for just over two weeks, did not coordinate with Bondi or other leaders at the Justice Department headquarters in Washington, DC, or inform them about timing before presenting the case to a grand jury.
Yes, and? It's called being an independent prosecutor. That's what Dems and "not Dems" cried would not be happening under Trump and here it is.
It should be more concerning if Bondi were micromanaging prosecution decisions by U.S. Attorneys. Halligan's independence adds to her credibility in prosecuting in her Virginia district a person who allegedly committed mortgage fraud in Virginia.
Then, of course, CNN had to throw this lie in:
A grand jury on Thursday indicted James on two charges — bank fraud and making false statements to a financial institution — as the Justice Department continues to pursue charges against Trump’s political opponents.
Leticia James is not Trump's "political opponent." That's absurd. When did she ever run against Trump for anything? She was his adversary, but as a politically-motivated prosecutor, not an "opponent." Nearly all Dems and "not Dems" were afraid to be an opponent of Trump, greatly preferring to simply lisp about him to the press.
Leticia James is not a national political official of any kind. She's a New York prosecutor. She only gained national notoriety by running on a campaign promising to prosecute Donald Trump. She named no crime that Trump had committed, just promised to get him.
