Guess you don’t want to tell me what your work was, but that’s fine. I’ve been retired for many years as well.

It was a technology field in heavy industry working for the defense department.

My government friends always LOVED the shutdowns and hoped they would last as long as possible. They knew they’d be paid eventually, and it was just another paid vacation for them.

Ain't it the truth. I remember very well having that 2 hour window of "free time" just to relax and do nothing before needing to go to bed to get up the next day! The real kicker for me was that we were on 50 hour work weeks working 6 days a week in rotating shifts, so after working 6 days on daylight, you got 1.2 days off then had to report at 3PM and work till bedtime. I kind of liked that shift.

Then another 1.2 days off after those 6 days only to report at 11PM and working through till 7AM. That one really sucked. The only good thing was that after three weeks of that you finally got 2.5 days off until you rotated back to working daylight again and we thought we were in heaven, but boy, does that working rotating shifts really tear the guts out of you.

Sounds like a paper mill.

Here’s the easiest way to cut the bloated workforce:

1) Announce that beginning Feb 1, all workers will be required to come to the office five days a week and work the full 40 hours for which they are paid.

2) I bet at least 25% of those over 60 will quit outright, not wanting to return to the commute and full work days they haven’t done in years. Consolidate those positions,

3) I bet at least 10% of the others will quit, as well, in anger over the fact that meanie Trump expects them to work for their pay.

We’ve cut 1 million positions right there.

You people are absolutely delusional. I mean hell, what percentage of the federal budget do you think goes to pay federal workers, including Congress, the Senate, and the entire Federal judiciary? Just fire them all. The SCOTUS is already Trump's kangaroo court, he can hold court, kind of like King David, the rulings are going to be what he says anyway. Waste of damn money.

Matter of fact, just make Trump king. Build a moat around the White House, populate it with Crocodiles and Parana, have hippos grazing on the White House lawn. Sell Air Force One and Marine One, like all four of them. Fire the White House staff, including the chef. Just put a McDonalds in the West Wing. No staff, Trump can operate the fryer for sure. He can have Teams meetings with international dignitaries. No need for any secret service protection. And we can fire all the ambassadors and close the embassies. Trump can handle it.

So now we have just saved a whomping 4.3% of the federal budget. OK, I know I am being facetious, but hell, cut the federal labor force by half, saves us 2.15%. How much of the federal budget goes to servicing our debts? A little over 18%. I am here to tell you, that is going to expand dramatically as interest rates climb, the increased cost will more than offset any savings we get from cutting the federal work force. Short long-term Treasuries.
