Dating back to the 16 year Mario Cuomo regime, Western NY went into a deep decline for a number of reasons. Most of those due to Cuomo's policy of slugging business with higher and higher taxes to fund his welfare state policies, state worker unions and other things.
His theory was that businesses would never leave NY because if you're not in NY, you're nowhere. he was wrong.
In Niagara County, over 50% of the population receives some kind of public assistance. Businesses never returned to Greater Buffalo.
It comes as no surprise NY 26 went democrat in 2010. It's full of welfare and food stamp recipients. Not to mention the State welfare goodies they are collecting.
Why work when a family of 4 in western NY can yank down over $50k per year in free shit?
These democrats bring up the wealth gap and then scream about the 'race to the bottom'...They are the ones providing the ski wax to make it easier to get there.

whats the shale situation up there? becasue those folks can like counties in Penn. can increase their incomes by 15, 20% via shale leasing. I know the greens are out in force and cuomo is keeping the lid on for them......

The current Cuomo regime has sided with the enviro wackos and placed a virtual ban on natural gas production.
People and their money are flocking across the State line to PA to find jobs paying three to four times as much. People with high school educations and a willingness to put in a hard days work are making more money than college grads in NY.
