I think we are trying to discuss the overlapping of two phenomenen.
My suggestion that cutting off 800,000 unemployment checks on people already way past desperate could set off a lot of crime thruout the country. Many of those people already have thier own guns as they were part of your mom and pop brigade before they lost thier jobs. I doubt they will form gangs. I don't doubt that they will do whatever it takes to survive.
The other situation...the eco terrorists....They are not going to take out thier anger on average people. If the threats by those in the congress that believe the world is only 5000 years old and "it is all in gods plan blah..blah..blah"..go through in disbanding the government monitoring global warming, the reaction and push back by those with genuine and very serious concern about our very survival will emerge. What form thier blow back takes? who knows? There are many more cards showing on the poker table with the pot representing much more than the trite arguments of those that just took over the house.
The scientific community is already organised so trying to discover "new gangs" among them would be fruitless. Also the bread and butter of the FBI's proactive investigation is and always has been infiltration. Thier main problem with infiltration in this group is that the Feds don't speak "science". It won't be as easy as setting up a 17 year old Somali high school student. The science people will not need assistance in carrying out whatever dirty deeds they may have in mind. Whatever they do will be damn near imposible to discover and equally hard to trace after the fact. If my guess is correct and they reach the conclusion that there is no more value in "talking" because the halfwits shut down the discussion... there will be blood.
Some of what you say is true. But, let us look at another countries experience. The Danes used to have a 5 year unemployment benefits package and amazingly enough, the vast majority of people didn't seem capable of finding a job till their unemployment ran out.
Thinking logically, the Danes figured the unemployed were milking the bennies so they reduced the time to four years and once again no one seemed able to find a job till the bennies ran out. Now the Danes have a two year unemployment package and guess what? Yep, you guessed correctly, no one can find a job till their benefits are about to expire and then they somehow are able to find one.
So long as you give money to folks they will not look. A good friend of mine has been milking the system as well. His wife works and he lost his managment job two years ago, so they got pregnant and he stays with the kid, and now they are trying to get pregnant again so that they can get as many government checks as possible while he stays home and plays house daddy.
There are many, many more people doing the same thing on our dime.
As far as the eco terrorists go, I was an original member of Greenpeace, before they went socialist, (and actually shipped out one year while in grad school) and what I really liked was they wanted in no manner to harm people. We could do anything we wanted to (almost) to the poachers (our main enemy at the time) equipment but no one had any desire to harm people. First off because we weren't murderers. And secondly we realised that if you harm someone their family will forever after hate you and want to harm you. You do significantly more harm to your cause when you harm someone than any level of short term benefit you may think you are getting. Sea Shepard (of which I am a supporter) carries on in that tradition.
The new AGW supporters however are very different. They honestly don't care about the environment. Thir goals are entirely political. They honestly have such a poor grounding in even basic science it astonishes me. I have to deal with a lot of them on almost every project I work on and they, in many cases, hinder the work that I am trying to do, which is clean up the environmental messes that they claim to want to avoid.
There is no real scientific evidence of AGW. Not a single bit Huggy. There is a significant amount of evidence that says a warm world is much, much better than a cold world. There is a significant amount of evidence that shows the climate we are experiencing is just another in a long series of cyclical temperature trends (the current one is a cooling trend that will last for the next two decades or so) so to rely on the cannard that the Republicrats in Congress are anti science is simply not true. There are a significant number of politicians on both sides of the aisle that are heavily invested in passing harsh environmental laws because they will make millions and millions and in a couple of cases billions of dollars off of the legislation.
The greenies also stand to make hundreds of millions of dollars off of the laws as well. The current state of affirs has nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with power and theft. From people like me and you.
