Why do republicans feel that democrats are conspiring against them and all-but declaring war on them.

This is an honest question, I'm trying to get a perspective of the mindset.

What makes you believe that, because from what I've seen, republicans are taking a counteroffensive against a non-existant enemy. The two parties are supposed to work together and compromise to find what's best for the american people

You obviously do not feel that Democrats feel the same way about Republicans, so any "discussion" would be pointless. Until you recognize that this "feeling" is a two way street, a game played by two, you will never find perspective.

I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat.

I don't think it's the honest, respectable Democrats but the Liberal Progressive Socialists who call themselves Democrat. They should be neutered and spayed and locked up in mental hospitals.

I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat.
I recognize that it is both ways, but republicans just seem to voice it more, from what I have personally seen. I am a democrat, but I try to stay as neutral as possible and base my ideals on my own judgement.

I personally believe both sides are being "brainwashed," so to speak, to hate the other side.

Republicans are too intelligent to succumb to brainwashing tactics but one can purchase a Democrat Brainwashing Kit at any Walgreens.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. Where does this hatred come from? I've not said anything to offend anyone, but the fact that I have a different opinion immediately makes every republican hate me. As if my very existance were insulting to them.

It all boils down to each sides belief system. Democrats feel bigger government is better, Republicans believe smaller government is better. It's always been that way but lately, democrats think they OWN the country and that there is no other plausible way to govern the country. That is wrong and borders on totalitarianism. The thing the founding fathers didn't want. The democratic party needs to take a good, long, hard look at what they are doing to the country..

At the same time, conservatives are getting close to anarchy, and getting rid of essential regulations that are best for the american people. I feel that both sides are about to go off of a giant cliff at opposite ends of the spectrum.

No one here hates you. They hate Progressive Liberal Socialists. Please read Post #5.

I don't believe anarchy but I do believe that they too have wandered from their core beliefs. You are correct in saying that both sides are about to go off a cliff. The country is a mess right now and I do not know what is the best way forward.

They really got totally upset when a brown skinned family moved into the Whitehouse.

If you believe that then here's no hope for you.

The Democrats have split off from American foundational thought and attitudes. The Constitution is but an impediment to them.

There is no place to compromise.

I do believe it, totally. The advent of the tea party. Fought him every step of the way.

I will never vote Republican again, which I have voted for both.

The GOP is all about capitalist and money. Screw the blue collar working class. One can see it by the way they are deregulating labor laws, and unions, defunding the EPA, wanting to get rid of the New Deal by abolishing Medicaid, Medicare and SS as we know it. The sooner they lose control of my state the better.

Until the government can be used to bless your marriage or invade a nation that is no threat to us. Then it is all in favor of the largest government taxes can support.

Yes and if you let the States decide some matters, you end up with a patchwork of rights. The President put it that way himself in this interview. I’ll play the video (which you won’t watch) and re-post the operative passage:

President-elect Trump speaks to a divided country on 60 Minutes

“Having to do with abortion — if it ever were overturned, it would go back to the states,” he said. “So it would go back to the states.” Women might still be able to get an abortion, he added, but “they’ll perhaps have to go, they’ll have to go to another state.” When Stahl asked Trump if it would be “okay” for women to travel to other states for the procedure, Trump said, “We’ll see what happens.” He added, “It’s got a long way to go, just so you understand.”

So if you’re female and you are up for a promotion and the place you work at is opening a branch in Austin or Lincoln; you have to decide between your lifestyle and your career. If you get accepted to college at University X and find out that the legislature is about to change the laws; well, you can’t go to the university where your mom or dad possibly went.

It was proven time and again during the 1960’s is that this is how states behave when they are given the opportunity.

As far as the damage the Democrats do, it is considerable. There are volumes of hilarious rules in place that the Democrats should have thought twice about installing. Some regulate the type of styrofoam that a butcher can use. Some allow men to use women’s bathrooms. But the overwhelming majority are well meaning, well thought out measures.

As Democracies go, its a yin and yang type thing though. Nothing is better for the Democrats then (from time to time) let the population languish under a GOP government. And vice versa.

Civil War? No. Both sides have too much to lose and the current structure will disallow any jeopardization of that.
The problem is that with our current President, there is no pretense of honesty or trustworthiness. When this trickles down to the State level where you may get a National Guard commander who is sympathetic to a dishonest douchebag governor who behaves like Trump who swears the election that he lost was rigged… would someone like Trump federalize the Guard to remove the governor from power if he is in the same Party?
