Civics should be mandatory for all children before they graduate

I know people with children in school. I have a step great granddaughter taken out of school in California on an emergency basis and sent to relatives in Texas.

A high school honor student was taught and explained to me that Hitler was in the KKK, and hated blacks. WWII was fought to free the slaves.

Sounds like Q theories

Exactly. People should be taught that they have a civic and personal responsibility to be healthy, have a job, and obey the law.

Students should be taught that they have a responsibility to pay attention and learn what is being taught.

Parents should be taught that they are role models for their kids, for better or worse.
With no emphasis on learning about the system under which they are to be governed? Yeah, that's the way to create a society of good little lemmings.

They're learning how to subvert the system, as in the last election. Also, people vote for the candidates that scratch their 'itching ears', not what is good for the country.

Must suck to have dumb family members that can’t reiterate what was actually taught.

Before getting a diploma, all children should be able to pass a proficiency test in Civics.

Everyone should understand exactly how their government works.

This ignorance of so many people is astonishing.

I was talking to a 39 year old woman the other day who said there are 52 states. She got mad at me when I corrected her.

Does the government WANT people to be ignorant about how the government is formed and operated?
Agree. Mandatory requirements for graduation from high school and college should include a politically neutral basic course in the founding documents, the Declaration of Independence and what it actually means, the U.S. Constitution, and the basic theories of government: communism/socialism vs capitalism, how a democratic constitutional republic differs from other forms of government, etc.

And because 'wokeism' is so utterly stupid and counter productive to a healthy nation, there also should be education in how culture changes over time, why people thought as they did in their own time, how that thinking and their choices affected their time and our time, and why they should not be personally judged by what passes for 22nd Century morality now.

If those qualified to write it decline, it's up to me, isn't it? After all, it's my idea, and many parents seem to need the information.

You don't suddenly become qualified by the disqualification of someone else. The fact that it's your idea is meaningless, really.

But, with regards to those who you believe are "qualified", what qualifies them?

When I became a father, the only teacher I had was my life's experiences with my own parents. My brother and I turned out pretty well, so emulating my parents seemed like the best way to go. What better teacher is there than your own life experience?

Civics is way down the list of things we need to be teaching.
I disagree. People with a solid grounding in U.S. and world history, the founding documents, the U.S. Constitution, how government works and why different forms of government produce different standards of living for the citizens and are encouraged to think critically about all that is critical to avoiding the mistakes that are disastrous, counter productive, increase the misery index for all citizens. Avoiding those mistakes paves the way to good choices in pretty much everything else.

Were it up to me, one would be tested on all 128 questions and need at least a 60% correct score to get a High School Diploma. - Minimum.

However, my real preference would be a 70% score to get the diploma and also to be allowed to Vote.

All ideas are meaningless, until they are tried. What the 'experts' are doing doesn't seem to be working. Maybe it's time for an amateur to step up.

But the democrat mantra says the dumber you are, the better.

First things first, then we'll get to civics.

Good for Idaho.

It should be federal. Let the Department of Education actually do something.

Federally mandated 7th grade Civics for every public school.
No. A good grounding in civics should clearly illustrate why the Constitution gives the U.S. government no authority in education and why a central government should have no power/involvement in public education. Allowing any government control over the message, content, methods of directing the minds of children should be rejected by every person who values liberty.
