Well for the Christians who I think I have heard saying Jesus was a socialist, I pretty sure one was Thom Hartmann, what they are referring to was taking care of those who need - not massive inequalities as we have in our societies at the moment where the massive redistribution in wealth there in the US since the 70's/80's has been only for the top 1% to a slight degree to the top 0.1% to a greater degree and most of all to the top 0.01%. When people were losing their ability to make money during Covid, the owner of Amazon made double digit billions while doing no work at all.

You do not know what democratic socialism is. This is a problem in the US. Hell I'd probably learn a wrong meaning if it meant jail time or even being deported as it did in the past. The nearest you have come to it was Roosevelt's New Deal which he put in the last time we were in the same economic situation as we are in now.

Basically the meaning which people like Hartmann and other Christians mean is that in a healthy country people would have a similar standard of living. We would take care of those most needy. It would not be the ever greater inequalities we see in Western Countries since the 80's.

There may however be another reason for you thinking this. Some of your Christian Right have changed God's/Jesus's thinking so that they do believe in the individual first and broadcast to the people of Africa that if they are not succeeding it is because of defects in them. Funny how religion can take on a political slant. They also fought against non far right Christians for the work they were doing in Africa.

They were trying to get everyone an education, to teach them how to avoid oppression, to get health care for everyone and to get rights for everyone including gay people.

Obviously the neo cons and American Christian Right wanted rid of them because their message as to what Christianity was, was a very different one. One way they worked it was like this. They told them there was no one who was really gay. Gay was just something made up in the West. Being Gay is Being a Demon. They said that the Christians who were telling them these people deserved rights were trying to get back into an imperialist position with them. They said 'they wanted you to let gays who are Demon's into your country because they know they will destroy your country.'

As big a difference as that between ordinary Muslims and Al Qaeda

On another level Chris Hedges, himself an ordained Minister and the son of one spent a couple of years researching these people and lurking in some of their Churches. He found that they bought up a lot of Seminaries after Carter and they started teaching a different kind of Christianity - the one which would go trying to get people to give the death sentence in Africa. They also changed their position from keeping away from Politics to becoming as involved in Politics as possible and encouraging their people to do so. In order to do this they have got themselves involved in Government - there are plenty of them in Congress and the Senate now, Pense was of course one. They have also got themselves firmly implanted in the US justice system. The Republican Party now seems to be their party and they are strongly Christian Zionist. They have such an enormous section of the American Vote that anyone who wanted into power has had to vote for them since around Clinton's time. Now it is true that not all American right or conservative Christians are anything like this bad but they will vote for who is offering the most for Israel. They are the people who bring together the fascist hates in the US, Muslims, they totally hate Muslims, then LGBT, sex outside marriage, women etc.

They have not as yet managed to get the death sentence for gays in Africa but they did manage to get draconian laws against them and last I heard it was part of the daily fun to beat up some lesbian or homosexual often exceedingly badly. You seem too wrapped up in politics. Christianity teaches us to love our neighbors as ourselves and that has nothing to do with what political party a person supports. Don't confuse religion with politics.

There is more complexity to American culture, even within religious culture, than you know.

The important point is that no ignorant foreigner has any standing to tell us Americans about our culture or politics, especially foreigners that are subjects of the nation that we twice defeated at war, to establish, once and for all, that nothing about our country is any of that country's fucking business.
