China halts export of rare earthes

No... I know ongoing diplomacy will continue... unlike the zero diplomacy under Biden... where were you then big mouth?...

The deal would have been closed already if Trump didn't have the impulse control of a toddler and had stupidly aped Russian propoganda about Ukraine starting the war with Russia.

And then in a little fit, threw the guy who was supposed to sign the deal out of the White House while insulting him.

That's not diplomacy. That's a goddamn tantrum. And a hallmark of Trump's amateur hour foreign policy.

Again, what a fucking dipshit. This was a no-brainer, a deal that both the US and Ukraine both wanted.

And somehow, Trump found a way to fuck it.
Just look at what Trump is doing to the stock market.
Right now nobody knows what the tariffs are, no less what they will be.
Commerce Secretary Lutkin said Trumps 90 day hold on high tech electronics from China, were still subject to the 10% base tariff, and 20% fentanyl tariff.

And Trump wonders why president Xi won't call him.

What would be the point? Trump is completely untrustworthy, making up the most dipshit excuses imaginable to levy tariffs on a whim.

Trump's rationale for the Canadian tariff? Fentanyl. That Canada isn't doing enough to stop massive amounts from flowing over the border to harm Americans.

The 'massive amount'? 23 pounds this year. 23 fucking pounds. And we've torched our relationship with our number one trading partner.

“The old relationship we had with the United States based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation is over,” he said.

“It’s clear the US is no longer a reliable partner. It is possible that with comprehensive negotiations, we could reestablish an element of confidence but there will be no going backwards,” the Canadian leader said, adding that future governments would have to grapple with the same changed dynamic.

And they're our closest ally! China sees how Trump will punish his friends on any pretense. Why would they ever trust anything that came out of his mouth? The man lies like he breathes, changes his mind on a whim, and regularly throws tantrums.

China is instead doing a charm offense across eastern Asia and making trade deals with Vietnam and even negotiating with Japan......while Trump isolates the US from the world for no good goddamn reason.

According to the U.S. Trade Representative, China has not contacted either his office or President Trump since April 2nd. In an effort to pressure China back to the bargaining table, Trump repeatedly raised tariffs—at one point up to 145%—yet received no response. The Chinese Ministry of Commerce later suggested that Trump should reconsider these tariff hikes. In turn, Trump issued a 90-day extension, but again, China remained silent. Eventually, Trump hinted that the extension might be cut short.

China did respond—but not in the way Trump had hoped. It announced the suspension of all rare earth and specialized magnet exports. Exporters must now apply for a permit, a process that can take anywhere from 60 days to several months. This delay gives the Chinese government time to assess whether these shipments might ultimately end up in the United States.

Here’s why this move is critical: China produces 90% of the world’s rare earth elements and controls about 70% of the global supply. These minerals are essential for advanced manufacturing, including the production of automobiles, aircraft, communications equipment, and various technologies used by defense contractors. In effect, China has a strategic chokehold—and now the ball is in Trump’s court.

China’s next move may not be economic but military. Xi Jinping has maintained control of the military with assertive declarations that the reunification of Taiwan with mainland China is inevitable. This aligns with a plan introduced in 2019 to integrate Taiwan under a framework similar to that of Hong Kong. However, Xi is quickly running out of options.

Because the Chinese have sat there and gone "What does Trump do?" and he's so predictable. They know what he's up to, and they're calling his childish bluff.

I think it's more like they see Trump as a toddler throwing a temper tantrum.

And the best thing to do is ignore him, instead of encouraging the behavior.

You guys can pick apart Trump's attempt to solve these problems but you are losing teammates by the day... you are becoming a cult that fewer and fewer want to be a part of... being against something just because Trump is for it is obvious to most Americans... especially the younger generation...
Trump stole the youth vote from the dems... think about that and the Black and Hispanic vote.... and now the unions...

I don't think so.

For China this is very serious. Their whole economy could collapse. You're looking at $500 billion or more at stake. The CCP can't afford to lose this.

So, they treat Trump like a dangerous wild animal. They research how the animal works, and then they go about dealing with it smartly.

They're standing there while a bear sniffs their balls and knowing that if they don't move, the bear won't eat them.

Its far worse. Power doesn't cease to exist because the US abdicates its influence with unforced errors, self inflicted damage to its own economy and waning influence.

When we retreat and cede influence to other countries, they TAKE the place we used to hold. As we pull back, put up trade barriers with friend and ally alike, demonstrate we are unreliable partners, flagrantly flaunt lawlessness, and bizarrely ape Russian propaganda.....our adversaries fill the gap.

China is making the kind of trade deals with its neighbors and countries around the world that the US used to make. From its partnerships with Vietnam, to the TPP, to its road and belt initiatives, they are gaining influence as we give it up.

America in contrast created a north American free trade agreement.....then wiped its ass with it for no good reason.

The votes were garnered by telling those groups promises to them.
Promises that Trump hasn't kept, and those groups are now reacting.
Trump promised no cuts to social security, medicare or medidaid, so he's going to lose the senior vote.

And how many promises did Biden keep... come on man...

China can control adverse reactions that effect their people much more than the US can. When COVID hit China they imposed draconian restrictions that the people accepted.

No one on SS will be cut... only accounts that are outdated and fraudulent... this helps the current recipients and future retirees... you can't allow fraud in the people's retirement system... but to say Trump will cut benefits of retired Americans is a lie...

Yep, it wouldn't be surprising to see a blockade of Taiwan or something happening in one or more of the countries China has cozied up to in recent years. NO COUNTRY IN THE WORLD now has allegiance to America. We have no one on our side because of our fool in the WH.

At some point, Trump will have to fold (as we're already seeing). He'll declare victory and so will his credulous rubes. The only question is how much damage will be done between now and then. We've already lost our trusted global relationships.

His obvious bluff has been called.

What about his cuts to medicare and medicaid.

You left that out. Which will cost republicans a ton of votes.

.
Man...you are a hack !

Were you ever in the service ? Can you guess how many NATO Subs are in between China and Taiwan ?

Do you realize...China shares a border with India (our allied) who almost as many foot soldiers.

Do you realize South Korea and Japan are like 5 minutes from them ?

Do you realize if a war broke out China would need IMHO 35% of thier arm forces to keep the population in check ?

BTW: Do you think when they release the Pee Tape CNN will cover it-24-7 again ???

The United States has more high-quality, influential vessels than the Chinese – ships such as guided missile cruisers, destroyers, and aircraft carriers. “Destroyers in particular serve as the backbone of any modern fleet,” CSIS wrote, on account of their ability to conduct a variety of missions with speed and range. Right now, the United States possesses 73 destroyers, whereas the Chinese have 42. The American destroyer gap is important, allowing the U.S. “to exert sea control and project power to a greater extent than” the Chinese.

  • The U.S. Navy has over 3.6 million (U.S.) tons of ships in its fleet, nearly twice the size of China’s combined fleets of just over 2 million tons.
[*]While China boasts the largest number of ships, 1,015 between both the PLA Navy and the Chinese Coast Guard, against the U.S. Navy’s 364, they are generally smaller and less advanced than their U.S. counterparts.
[*]The Chinese Coast Guard has received many of the PLA Navy’s older ships, however the vast majority of their ships are patrol and coastal combatants that average 711 tons apiece and aren’t able to sail far from China’s coast.
[*]Even as the U.S. Navy edges out the PLA Navy across almost every ship type, China does hold a 16:1 edge in tonnage of landing ships and craft, reflecting the Asian superpower’s stated policy goal of reunifying Taiwan with the mainland.

All those fake islands can be destroyed in a few minutes by carrier launched drones.

China suspends rare earth exports, kneecapping US industry reliant on Beijing’s ‘monopoly’

The export halt applies to all countries, but access to elements like dysprosium and yttrium are critical to US industry — especially in the tech, electric vehicle, aircraft and defense sectors, according to Drew Horn, who served as the top US official on strategic minerals and energy supply chain development in President Trump’s first administration

“Rare earths are in everything,” he told The Post Monday, singling out “the EV and auto space … [and] everything from cell phones, defense key components, [and] space travel.”

“China,” Horn added, “has essentially created an all-powerful monopoly with them.”

Great fucking job, Trump.

Trump is closing social security offices, and requiring people appear in person to claim retirement benefits, but only after they make appointments on phone lines that are backed up for hours before you can get through.
