Dindu nuffin shot a cop in the head. Sad, he was 32, perp is 18. Kim Foxx will probably give the murderer an award.

Chicago police officers are mourning after one of their own was killed in the line of duty Wednesday.

Officer Andres Vasquez-Lasso, 32, was shot and killed as he chased a teenaged armed suspect who suddenly turned and fired "at close range" in Gage Park, FOX 32 reports.

The incident began to unfold around 4:45 p.m. when two police cars responded to a domestic-related call in the 5200 block of South Spaulding Avenue. A caller said a suspect was chasing a female with a gun, Police Superintendent David O. Brown told reporters.

When officers arrived, one officer knocked on the door of where the call originated. A second officer engaged with the suspect and a chase ensued where gunfire was exchanged.

Well, that officer was already in violation of standard orders not to engage in foot chases, so there's that.

But I honestly doubt the suspect is going to get off scot free.

Once again Walter shows up to blame the victim and defend the thug because the grocery store is out of his Metamucil.

Blaming the Cop again, wow.
For failing to follow procedure. Current procedure is that you don't persue suspects on foot.
This is there because the last guy shot a 13 year old kid with his hands up.

Not blaming the victim, pointing out that there is a procedure in place. This officer placed his life in danger by not following the procedure.
Also, you shouldn't steal an insult if you don't know what it was about.

Just one of many reasons why Chicago is a crime-ridden shithole.
No more than the rest of a gun crazy country. Funny thing, other countries limit gun ownership and don't have these kinds of problems.

Wrong, Walter. The procedure is that they don't do foots pursuits for minor offenses. This person was armed and a danger.

Officers won't be allowed to chase people on foot if they suspect them of minor offenses such as parking violations, driving on suspended licenses or drinking alcohol in public. But they will still have discretion to chase people who they've determined are committing or about to commit crimes that post "an obvious threat to any person."

Yes, you literally blamed the victim. You put the blame on him for not following a policy that didn't even apply in this case.

Funny how other countries that actually deal with violent criminals the way they should be instead of sending them through a revolving door with slaps on the wrists don't have these kinds of problems either.

They are going to bury this guy under the prison, he is just spewing right wing propaganda to get the rest of his racist buddies riled up.

The key word there being "discretion". He didn't show any. You wait for back up. You don't go chasing someone alone who might be armed into an unknown situation.

Chasing an armed suspect into an alley alone.. not very smart. He escalated the situation. This doesn't excuse the suspect, but we need to train these cops better. Oh, if you read the story, the suspect - a teenager - was shot in the head and is in critical condition.

Not to worry, the Fascist CPD will Horst Wessell the fuck out of this guy.

Um, you really don't know much about the Criminal Justice system in other industrialized countries, do you?

We lock up 2 million people.
The Japanese only lock up 49,000
The Germans only lock up 78,000
The British only lock up 68,000

Except for Japan, most of the industrialized world has eliminated the Death Penalty.

Even accounting for smaller populations, we have the most brutal criminal justice system in the industrialized world.

If guns and prisons made us safer, we'd be the safest industrial democracy, not the most dangerous.
