A state investigator alleged Thursday that a white man was heard saying a racist slur as he stood over Ahmaud Arbery's body, moments after fatally shooting the black man with a pump-action shotgun.

IM2 I saw in the news this morning that Georgia governor Kemp repealed the Civil War era law which authorized citizen's arrests. The law was originally passed in 1863 in order to allow [white] citizens to round up escaped slaves. When the 14th Amendment passed some 5 years later conveying citizenship on black people, they continued use it as the grounds for the lynching of blacks on the pretext of the blacks having allegedly committed some crime (wait I've heard this before, right here in this thread) and they as dutiful white citizens had not just the right but duty to enforce justice by making these citizen's arrests.

Attorneys have this term they use when they want to object to a question asked of someone on the stand called "facts not in evidence. In other words, comments are made/argued that assumes something as true for which no evidence has been shown. You've taken this tactic and run it to the extreme. You're attempting to state as fact something that you couldn't possibly know and that is what Arbery was thinking or his motivation for not wanting to talk to the McMichaels or stop for them. That's complete bullshit and speculation and you know it, whereas on the other hand you have an eyewitness, one of the defendants actually, who reported that Travis called Arbery a f'ing n-word after he shot him as Arbery lay on the ground dying. That's an eyewitness statement.

As far as the McMichaels merely "observing" Arbery, we have several laws that address the type of behavior they were engaged in before it ever even got to murder - harassment, stalking and conducting surveillance without a license, the first two are crimes, I believe unlawful surveillance is a tort for invasion of privacy but since it's also a violation of state licensing regulations, I believe the state may bring an action against the unlicensed investigator, at least in my state, I'm not 100% sure about Georgia.

Bottom line, it all comes back to the fact that these clowns had NO lawful authority to engage in any of the behavior they admitted to but I can tell you, usually criminals aren't as accommodating as these three were. Presumably because they are so ignorant of the law, including somehow the one who is a former law enforcement officer, that they admitted to the police up front, everything they did because they obviously didn't think they had done a damn thing wrong. Maybe they thought they were going to receive some type of accolade or something.

Reading the paper today and seeing that Georgia's governor acknowledged that the law that let the McMichaels initially escape charges as well as jail time was created to empower [white] citizens to arrest anyone they perceived to be an escaped slave and then later on to justify lynching blacks, only made me a little happier. I'm guessing it's because it's the same thing I recognized in the Zimmerman case and anger that this law was still on the books and that there are people still hunting black people in 2020 while it seems almost half of the population claims that system racism simply does not exist.
