Good old socialized medicine and government.

Ten-month old Charlie Gard is dying.

The beautiful little baby suffers from a rare genetic condition, and his parents were prepared to let the boy pass away quietly in a London hospital, where he has been cared for since he was born.

But then they discovered an experimental treatment in the United States. It’s a slim chance, and the odds are it won’t help, but parents Chris Gard and Connie Yates wanted to try.

The hospital – the Ormond Street Hospital for Children – had already decided that young Charlie Gard should die. And they were going to do it.

Their government panel ruled that he should be taken off life support so he can “die with dignity.”

So when Chris and Connie raised $1.6 million to fund this last-ditch effort to save their son’s life, they thought they could take him to the States.

The European Court, which apparently oversees whether or not people live or die over there, decided no – Charlie could not be taken out of the hospital. Instead, the hospital was ordered to kill the little boy.

Strange how mostly lefties cheer the slaughter of millions of unborn babies, even by stabbing them in the back of the head while they silently scream, but they really care about an infant with a rare disease.

First the OP wrote "..the government is going to kill [Charlie Gard]..".

Then the OP wrote "Charlie Gard is dying".

Then "..the hospital was ordered to kill the little boy".

Does the OP have any clue which of these statements is correct?

I think there are some real questions to be asked about this horrendous case but, as usual, the RWNJs can't help but heap on the lies, thus making real discussion impossible.

Again, more lies from a real RW nutter.

What is the point of the constant lies?

It does seem like an amazingly sad case, but more information than was supplied in the OP would be needed for a humane, rational discussion.

I wrote the headline and the first line of the post. The rest is directly from the linked articles. You sure pick stupid shit to bitch about.

Try focusing on the facts instead of acting like a moron. The government has decided to kill this child against the parents wishes. They have privately raised the money to bring the child to the US for treatment that is not offered under Socialized Medicine in the U.K. The government has said no and that the child must die.

Read the damn article before posting and stop acting like a piece of shit.

I don't know that this has as much to do with socialized health care as it does with an overbearing authoritarian state. Similar things have happened here, such as with Terri Schiavo and Justina Pelletier

I just gave you two examples of similar incidents here and we don't have that system. In the end, it wasn't the NHS who denied them. It was a European Court who issued the final decision siding with the NHS. They could have overturned the decision, but didn't and the European Court has nothing to do with socialized medicine, just like courts here in the U.S. issued their verdicts with Schiavo and Pelletier.

I don't like the government in our private lives. I also don't know the best way to deal with these horrible situations.

I've read that the treatment that is offered in the US could, in theory, have lessened some symptoms but not have extended his life or cured him. But, his case is more severe than any treated in the past and apparently, its too late for the treatment. Not sure of all the details.

Our social and ethical position has not kept up with our technology.

The Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by the parents of sick baby Charlie Gard, over plans to take him to the US for treatment.

Chris Gard and Connie Yates want the 10-month old, who suffers from a rare genetic condition, to undergo a therapy trial.
...
A spokesperson for Great Ormond Street Hospital said it was a "very sad day" for Charlie's parents and family.

"It is never easy when medical and judicial opinion goes against the wishes of the parents but our first responsibility at Great Ormond Street Hospital remains to put the interests of the child first and foremost.

"It is also hugely difficult for any clinically-trained professional to be asked to treat a child who has no chance of survival or even improvement in his quality of life", the hospital added.
...
This may though not be the end. They want to try and take their case to the European Court of Human Rights.
...
"Fundamentally the parents don't accept the facts," she said. "They don't accept that nucleoside therapy will be futile."

Yes, it's highly unlikely the treatment here in the U.S. would have done them any good, but the decision should have been left to the parents, not the government.

Not to mention keeping religion (pope and others) out and trump, who kept money meant for children's medical charity, is poisoning US kids and wants to cut medical care to poor children and babies, but is suddenly all kinds of concerned about this poor baby.

Brings out the best and the worst but yes, this should be between the parents and their doctors.

The NHS not only refused to provide treatment, they failed to act as an advocate for a sick child. Absolutely disgraceful.

The parents raised the money to treat their child and Socialist nit wits have done everything possible to ensure the child will not be treated.

Alas, this is a perfect example of what a "single payer" system begets. A Control & Command structure replete with death panels.

Be careful, libbie chilin's - you may just get that for which you jones!
