This should be a fairly simple and indisputable statistic for the Census Bureau to compile. There are tons of stats on Conviction Status, whether they are weekend release, whether they are awaiting conviction and on and on. But nothing on the very important stat on percentage of inmates that are not US Citizens. So we are left to get these numbers from partisan sources all with an axe to grind. What do you think? Should this be a statistic reported in the Annual Survey of Jails?

A much more important stat that should be reported, investigated, and made front page news, is the number of innocent citizens in our prisons and jails. After all, we do claim to be the land of the free. And, we send our men and women of the armed forces to fight and die in the name of freedom. Shouldn't freedom mean freedom?

It is 27%. This came from some government website. I will try an look it up again, and post it for you.

SC, I don't know how the Census Bureau would be able to determine the number of innocent citizens currently imprisoned.
They can't. And, they wouldn't want to. To do so, would surely destroy the judicial system. By doing so, it would expose the propaganda machine that operates within our government.

Isn't the policy of law enforcement in many states to not ask about citizenship?

Ask any prisoner and they will say they are innocent. If a citizen is arrested, tried for his crime and convicted by a Judge and/or a jury, the chances are he/she is not innocent.

It depends on whether or not it was a circumstantial evidence case.
