China bears watching closely.
Xi is being squeezed by the trump tariffs
Could an invasion of Taiwan be the chicoms next move?
Its a common tactic of dictatorships under pressure

I hope not. When all else fails, go to war.
This is an ancient solution to the sort of social chaos Trump is inflicting on the entire planet; if China blockades Taiwan in response to a US attack on Iran, who will you support?

Has Xi Jinping Lost Control of the Military? Multiple Anomalies Point to Political Shifts in China | JAPAN Forward
After Xi Jinping issued a new wave of purges from the PLA, its goal appears to be sidelining his military influence and potentially forcing his resignation.japan-forward.com
Meh, not really.
Leaving aside that China has every right to re-assert her sovereignty over a break-away province, Trump's tariffs aren't going to hurt China that much.
China will still get paid for its widgets, Americans will just pay more for them.
I'd be more worried about Trump starting a war with someone like a cheap Reality TV stunt.
I guess.
Xi really isn't the problem here.
The problem is that the West doesn't understand why Taiwan is an important issue to China.
That's like saying South Korea is a "break away province" and the Norks have every right to cross the 38th parallel.
The people of Taiwan don't want to be part of communist mainland China.
You probably also think Argentina should own the Falklands even though a vast majority of the Falklanders want to remain with England.
Well, S. Korea has the larger population, so probably N. Korea is the breakaway province.
If Taiwan doesn't want to be part of China, they should probably stop calling themselves "The Republican of China". Or speaking Mandarin. Or writing in Hanzi. Or being 98% Han Chinese.
Actually, the UK should return the Malvinas to Argentina.
That's just as dumb as the Macedonia argument.
Nope. It wasn't like there was an established Argentinian population on the Islands.
