Canada and Mexico come to the Table: Two Countries Concede on Tariffs

Canada did not have material tariffs on the US in the first place. They had a free trade agreement with the US.
Not material? Well they apparently were important enough to Canada that they wouldn’t let them go until Trump told them to and threatened our own

You fucker. Your Orange Jesus gas catapulted us into a recession. The greatest tax increase in history!
To be fair, the likelihood of a recession increases the longer the tariffs remain in place. If countries back down or lower their tariffs in a relatively short time, you probably might see a couple of bad months, but if countries go toe to toe, there will be a recession for who knows how long.

Canada hasn't even made their tariff announcement yet, and we've agreed to nothing.

Canada is in no position to agree to ANYTHING at this point, other than further negotiations after the election.

Trump just announced the tariffs making a lie out of the OP.
You are right about one thing, Canada is in no position to do anything. Your economy is in ruins thanks to your leftist polices

Watch out for the panic news folks.... just follow the facts... this tariff order is a good thing for America... and if you trade at all watch for deals because the market always recovers like it did today....

Well, hyudai's are built right up the road in Montgomery, Al and my hyundai I bought in 2014 was a piece of shit and that one was made in Al, the two I have bought that were made in Korea were the best I've had since the 60's.
They sucked so bad you bought two more?

:102:

I've heard this about toyota as well. Any vehicle made in the US is just not up to the same quality as the ones made in Japan.

That needs to change. Quality standards should be the same
Tell that to the US automakers lobby....

Lobbyists in other countries are just not that powerful... Cars in Europe have to be far more pedestrian and cycling safe that in the US (cause they got a lot more of them)...

This is the hardest thing when negotiating with the US... Corporate Lobbyists are constantly pressing congress and senate to write in their favour, ie Corporate favouring over Citizen Favouring....

Read this:

You will see the difference between EU and US food Standards...

"Europeans might buy American software, movies and weapons, but they aren’t keen on U.S. beef pumped with hormones, chlorine-washed chicken or genetically modified corn. The main reason? Brussels’ precautionary principle — a regulatory approach that requires proof a product is safe before it can be sold. The U.S., by contrast, operates on a risk-based system, where anything not proven harmful is fair game."

The fact that Canada agreed to drop their tariffs on us is direct evidence that they were tariffing our goods.

Use your brain for once.
I could be wrong here (and if you claim I am please prove it with a link) but Canada has imposed tariffs in response to tariffs WE imposed and are taking them off if we remove ours… true?

MAGA better put the bible on ice

Mexico are just not going tit for tat... Either are Canada or EU....
They want to target what hurts Trump the most and benefits themselves...

The talk is EU is looking at Canadian Oil and Gas...
If Canada took the gas it exports to US (91 bcm) and sent it to EU, it would be the equivalent of what EU get from US and Russia combined...

Yep...

Biden actually increased it...

Good Lord

And this is all so stupid and self inflicted.

Someone please stop Trump from doing all this crazy

Canada earlier today agreed to drop their tariffs on American goods when America does. While I appreciate the sentiment, America should only accept that with a proviso of snap-back tariffs that are double the original.

Mexico agreed not to impose any additional tariffs, instead choosing to negotiate. Here, the US should demand that Mexico drop all its tariffs on American goods in exchange for America dropping its, with similar snap-back provisos as Canada's.

The take?

While I'm not the biggest fan of Trump, he won here. They caved. However, the tactic he used to begin with was tantamount to being a schoolyard bully. It was extremely unsightly. Short-term disaster, long-term gain, if you could call it that. There are more honorable ways to step on the throats of your competition.

I believe that the US was playing nice for the last 50 years or so...and got zero results. Sometimes, you need a hammer.
