Zone1 Can you pass the US Citizenship Practice Test?

Truth.

I had my identity stolen once. Talk about having to dot all the I’s and cross all the T’s.

I tried to get the FBI to investigate, but was told they don’t do that. It was in another state that I had never been to.

Needless to say, I have frozen my credit report, to this day, which helps keep the criminals at bay.
A huge pain in the ass.

I've found that a common experience with many government offices.
Most recent was a few years ago when I had to correct identity theft by someone who tapped my social security. I hadn't personally started to collect it at that time.
.

Yikes! It must have gotten a whole lot easier to deal with the SSA since the time I got my SSN used by someone else, about 25-30 years ago. I called the office and the hoops I'd have had to jump through just didn't seem worth it. That was back when identity theft just wasn't that huge a deal, I guess.

.

I don’t know about folks under 30, but judging from what I see these days (young folks glued to their smartphones, surfing social media and doing who knows what), the results wouldn’t be anything to write home about.

By the way, here’s a curious stat, according to an older article I found:

In terms of partisanship, Republicans outscored Democrats and independents. Forty percent of Republicans answered all five questions correctly, compared with 35% of independents and 33% of Democrats.

Edited to add: just now found this article: American History Crisis: Most High Schoolers Flunked US Citizenship Test. They're Now Adults.
That has been my experience and here's an anecdotal case in point;

For several years my Whatcom County Republican Party has had a booth at the NW Washington Fair, here in Lynden.

Along with candidate campaign literature and merchandise, and the candidates there for meet-n-greet we have an item that has been a major draw. It's a spinning wheel, about 4 foot diameter, on a stand, with red-white-&blue wedges on the face. Spin the wheel answer a civics question (from the CIS Test) correctly and win a "prize"*, answer three correctly and win a miniature American flag or a pocket Constitution. (Or both at the 'wheel-masters' choice).
* "prize" is a piece of candy (like given at Halloween) and actually everyone gets that for trying, a "participation award".;)

Our experience is as you point out, most school age kids and young adults often show little knowledge to answer the questions correctly, if given a random choice. This tends to be the case with those form public schools where little to no civics tend to be taught today. Kids from home-schools and private schools tend to do much better. Many adults, even over 30 even, tend to do poorly on answers as well. Interestingly, Canadians (We are located only about 8 miles from the border) often do better than Americans. :cool:

We have taken to asking a question or two before the kid/person spins the wheel to gauge whether to give a tough or easy question. And pre-schoolers get a real easy one, like what colors are on the American flag.

When we hand out the pocket sized Constitution, we often mention that this is "Your Citizen's Owners Manual". Disappointing in how many citizen/voters no very little of it's contents.

Passing score is 60%, I believe. I got 90% on my first try, without any prep - got tripped up on one question, over something stupid. The challenge is to see if anyone can beat my score - shouldn’t be too hard. You merely need to get 100% to do that.

This is all in good fun, mind you. However, if your name is JGalt or BackAgain (or your high IQ rivals theirs), don’t even bother with this. You’re far too smart and it would be like asking a nuclear physicist what 2+2 is. 🤣

For the rest of you mere mortals, feel free to take the quiz and beat my score. Anyone who beats my score, I will consider superior in IQ level and will listen to you in debates, with keen interest - for, I have much to learn from you.

8 out of 10, and I'm British

There is a recent thread on the Constitution;

A recent post I made there is this, on places to get a pocket size copy of the Constitution, & includes the DOI;

I'm sure I'd never do near as well taking a British citizenship test.

.
Well, I knew question 4 wasn't as high as 735 so I picked 485 but it was wrong.

Also, I thought the French owned more West so I picked North West, but it was Louisiana. I did actually read a few weeks ago the different territories being sold to the US at different times in the past, but I need to read those again.

I've been busy studying the geographic area of Thailand etc..out that way to increase my knowledge, sorry need to do better in future.

Congratulations and I would say you are smarter than I. For, I just now completed the UK Citizenship online practice test - I got 10/24 or 42%.

Much respect, Man and I love Captain Caveman! One of my favorite shows, as a kid.
Our TV etc.. is inundated about America and many others countries, so we tend to absorb not only our history, but history of everywhere else. Never a day goes by without an American question on a TV quiz show.

England became England on 12 July 927, and there's a heck of a lot of history before then to learn. and I'm late 50's now, so it gets harder to retain newly learnt knowledge.

You didn't know that?
That's what he said. Do you think he might be lying.

I can understand why there might be some confusion on that question since some parts of the USA does allow non-citizens to vote and run for local offices such as school boards. That would lead me to believe that a non-citizen could also serve as a juror in some sort of local court.

Easy Money... got all correct....
.

Didn't we used to have classes called "History" and "Civics" when we were in high school?

Kids even study such a thing as "Government" in the high school in my town. The really good ones get sent on a vacation to study "Government" and "Journalism", funded by the American Legion

I was born here so I'd never take a lousy test.
No point to this whatsoever, my friend.

I was born here, too and am a bit of a history and civics nerd, so I like to play around with this type of stuff. I frankly found the test to be a Mickey Mouse thing, but I still learned a thing or two - I never knew Ben Franklin was the oldest member of the Constitutional Convention, for instance.

I aced it but then I teach this stuff. Even though I teach it I do not claim to be a constitutional scholar though.

I have no interest in our founding fathers. That's a snooker. To heck with em.
