First of all the tree of knowledge of good and bad is a metaphor. It's not an actual tree. Good exists. Evil doesn't. Evil is the absence of good; evil is the negation of good. This is about free will. The choice between doing good and not doing good. God does not need to tempt us. We have to choose for ourselves.
