Yeah for free speech of any kind, but opinions without support are not discussions because of the TDF (Troll Density Factor) on forums like this. You cant escape folks bound and determined to eat up your thread and force moderation of some kind.

That's part of the problem, many don't consider news sources as objective, even when they're stating the facts as known at the time of publicantion.

There are a couple other parts of that problem.
1) Some people will consider any news source as objective
2) Some people only consider legacy/MSM as objective
3) Some people are clueless on the meaning of objective

As for "stating the facts as known at the time of publicantion." (publication ?sp?)
1) Many sources are selective in the facts they will state and also those they will omit
2) Many sources will put a spin or suggestive phrasing to the presentation;
"When did you stop beating your wife?" vs "Do you beat your wife?"
3) Many sources don't have access to all the facts, or even try to find such

All the above in consideration, a person is not absolved from learning how to distinguish fact from fabrication, or how to recognize the use of propaganda techniques.*

Finally, "news sources" are written and edited by humans and all humans have their prejudices.
Recent surveys of USA journalism students show anywhere from 80-90% admit to Leftist political beliefs and feelings.

It just takes more work these days to FIND objective reporting. But for certain a large chunk MSMedia have lost their credibility. I find you need to follow news sources for at least a year to rate their cred. It's even harder to do that with posters on a Message Board. HONESTY is a prereq for credibility. And that's at the core of of the media "objectivity" crisis. Which is why "alternative" media on the web is gaining in popularity. Because the faces and voices only survive if they HAVE some honesty and cred and the ability to entertain a bit whilst they do that is good thing.

The corporate giants in the media can stand on their cash reserves and hardly care if they are losing audience, as long as they feel they are furthering some political cause or social "good". (Jeff Bezos until lately is the best example - but even HE can be in enough pain to change).

By the way, "stating facts as known at time of publication" is a lame excuse for following OTHER media into oblivion. BELIEVING the story is true and factual is not a tool of journalism.

Just about every thread OP here @ usmb is opinion masking ask fact. Thanks to a select group of imbeciles, idiots, and complete morons.

I'm not sure why a forum that promotes free speech as well as this one does would not have a sub-forum solely dedicated to just that, free speech.

I don't always need, nor expect, a "link" to some website that leans either right or left. There should be a sub-forum where people are allowed to discuss their views without supporting links to anything, based on ones personal experience, beliefs, and attitiudes. It can most surely be moderated, however you desire, keeping discussions on topic is probably only necessary if one is alerted by the author it is necessary. No room for crying in this forum, discussions revolve around your viewpoint, not the viewpoint of someone from the Washington Post, MSNBC, FOX News or Breitbart.

A forum where big boy pants are required to participate in. I hope this idea resonates with someone, I think it's a good one. My services as an ombudsman can be utilized if the forum deems this necessary for this sub-forum's success. I'm here to help.

Just like adulthood, opening your mouth comes with responsibilities. Comments are opinions, state an opinion, just simply have the evidence to back it up. When there's no evidence, it's called, "Talking bullshit".

Anyone wanting to talk bullshit, just go to the relevant section, Bad Lands. Imo, many Americans confuse the concept of Freedom of Speech with talking Bullshit.
