Can we have an Opinion Page?

It is after the OP.....But why can't the OP just be the OP's opinion?
I think in most of the non-zone one threads it can be.

"I like mozzarella Alfredo instead of Parmesan and here's why..."

The topic is completely subjective.

What political opinions do you hold not based in some basic facts?

"I don't like Mitchell McConnell because he looks like a turtle human hybrid."

Where is that thread going?

That would be perfect, some outline like this can surely be part of the forum. Just an idea, but I do think this could make for a very interesting sub-forum. Some posters would not be up for it as they are never able to elaborate, and probably unable to formulate a well reasoned opinion.

That's okay though, they can keep doing what they do.
I don't see any mods online to verify, and I don't want to see you in the doghouse over it...but I've definitely done this before...and recently... but in the General Discussion forum.

Can't see why that would be an issue for anyone who wanted to start a strictly opinion thread.

As long as you are not in a zone 1 forum, especially Politics and Current Events... I don't envision a problem.

I'm not sure why a forum that promotes free speech as well as this one does would not have a sub-forum solely dedicated to just that, free speech.

I don't always need, nor expect, a "link" to some website that leans either right or left. There should be a sub-forum where people are allowed to discuss their views without supporting links to anything, based on ones personal experience, beliefs, and attitiudes. It can most surely be moderated, however you desire, keeping discussions on topic is probably only necessary if one is alerted by the author it is necessary. No room for crying in this forum, discussions revolve around your viewpoint, not the viewpoint of someone from the Washington Post, MSNBC, FOX News or Breitbart.

A forum where big boy pants are required to participate in. I hope this idea resonates with someone, I think it's a good one. My services as an ombudsman can be utilized if the forum deems this necessary for this sub-forum's success. I'm here to help.
All you have to do is start a thread and state that it's your opinion.

Does not the FZ work for you? Plenty of unsupported opinions floating around there..err..or so I hear~

Pretty much why I tend to stay in the FZ.
No links required, all opinion, and you can tell idiots to fuck off and eat a bag of dicks.

The FZ is not even a shell of what it used to be, unfortunately. Seems like it's been a gradual endeavor on the part of a few. For one thing, the foreigners who have set up camp down there have turned it into a dreary, gray cloud more than anything with their repugnant, boring personalities. And these are naturally mean-spirited people as well.

Just takes the fun out of it all. Likely by intent.

It's pretty much just a mirror image of the upstairs now.

But whatever...

The whole point of this forum is to replace the old opinion page found in newspapers.

Remember newspapers? They used to be a thing in this country for most of its history, and were often the best part of the newspaper. The same could be done here.
.
The FZ is not the same thing as an Opinion Page, the vibe is completely different, the O.P. is not there for the purpose of antagonizing or attacking anyone (even if many threads in the FZ are not doing so) it is meant as a public platform for expressing ones opinion, in the same way newspapers once allowed.

It's not complicated, but some guidlines would need to be established, particularly regarding content. It is not meant as a forum for someone like Dogmaphobe to continually cry about moderation, for example.

Let's hammer out the details and get this done.

I know not this 'Flame Zone' of which you speak.

The key word is "discussions" and that should be the driving force. To promote discussions rather than confrontations should take a bit of work on your part. Dont sweat the req to have links. Links PROTECT your thread by laying the details, numbers, and/or facts.

Even opinion threads in the better media like WSJ sometimes use links.

Yeah for free speech of any kind, but opinions without support are not discussions because of the TDF (Troll Density Factor) on forums like this. You cant escape folks bound and determined to eat up your thread and force moderation of some kind.

That's part of the problem, many don't consider news sources as objective, even when they're stating the facts as known at the time of publication.
.

The News will lead you to whatever it wants you to know ...
Your Principles should guide you to wherever you need to be ... Always.

And ... That's going to require you to think for yourself at times ...
